    Default Spotting vs. Period?

I'm 18 years old and I have been on Ortho try cyclin lo for about 3 months.

From my second pack to my third pack, I skipped the green "sugar" pills, therefore skipping my period.
I experienced very light spotting during my second pack and I can't remember if I spotted or not on my first.

I started spotting on my third pack about a week before my period was due to start. It was mostly brown-ish discharge, which I thought was normal. It went on for about 4 days, until I started taking the non-horomone pills, which indicated that I should get my period.

I haven't seen any change in flow or anything since I started the green pills - it's been the same as the spotting - very light flow with a dark brown color. I haven't bled at all.

What is going on? Can I be pregnant?

its very doubtful that you are pregnant. i just had this same problem - i was on a very low dose of loestrin 24. i had perfectly normal and predictable periods for 8 months and out of nowhere i started very lightly spotting, which turned into clots and then back to spotting. lasted about four days. i called the doctor immediately because i panicked, thinking i was pregnant, had cancer, an std, something, and it turns out it was just because my birth control was too low of a dosage, even though it had been working so well for so long. they actually just started me on ortho tri cyclin instead. have you been on any other bc before this? did you get switched? is this your first time? because its pretty common for spotting to happen in between periods almost like a normal flow. and sometimes that makes the lining in your uterus so thin that you don't really have a period, maybe just some more light spotting kind of thing. the best thing you can do is call your doctor - either the receptionist can answer your question or you can go to your doctor and see if you need a different kind of birth control. : )

Wow thank you! I was on loseasonique - the four periods a year pill, but they switched it because it was messing with some acne meds I was on.

I'll probably call the doctor later.
