First, let me give you a bit of background, I'm 28 years old and I have never had a regular period right from the get-go. I had been skipping months, three, six, nine and then a whole year!! Then my period came on that bad, heavily bleeding and the pain was unbearable I couldn't move. Thinking back now I think that this was my first experience with cysts bursting.
I have been on different forms of birth control the pill, low dose of the pill, the birth control patch, nuvaring and they have all had a different effect on me. Nuvaring gave me a bad yeast infection and the others just make my migraines worse, from what the doctor says I am sensitive to the hormones and barometric pressure/weather changes which bring on the migraines. I get nauseous, dizzy and the only way to get it to go away is to sleep it off.
I have days that I am really tired and just don't want to move or do anything. I have also woken up at night with unbearable sharp stabbing pain.

Right now I am at my wits end and don't know what to do, I have been living with my fiancee for going on five years now and we are active. I need to be on birth control because I don't want to end up pregnant now with our wedding less than seven months away and to also regulate my cycle, my last option is a copper IUD. Oh, and I haven't been officially diagnosed as having PCOS yet, I think I am actually somewhere in between. Any advice would be appreciated and I am sorry for rambling on so, but it would be nice to hear of other peoples stories who are having the same experience.

    Hi Canadian Shorty.
Canadian Giant here! (No really, i'm 5'10").
I just registered to respond to your msg. I'm 29 and been diagnosed at age 19.
I've been through it all and to be quite honest, doctors and their treatment have done nothing for me.
But the only one thing i can tell you that work is LIFESTYLE CHANGE. Nothing else does it. Our bodies can metabolism what most can out there. We have to stay away from refined/white sugars, carbs, eats TONS of green and raw foods, supplement, exercise and take life easy and relax.

Yoga for me saved me from suicidal ideation i had over my infertility. You have to stay away from chemical exposure as much as possible. Go through your bathroom and throw away any products with parabens, sls.
Start doing your own research. Read books about managing PCOS naturally because that DOES work.
Drink lots of herbal teas and water and get a good natural multivitamin (stay away from the centrum stuff) as part of your daily routine. Exercise is also key here.

email me if you have any questions vybrave hotmail dot com

I live in Hamilton Ontario. I know ALL about the struggles of dealing with this nightmare and doctors here who have very very little knowledge about it.

If you live near Toronto, I know of a good Dr who specializes in PCOS. Dr. Sheila Laredo at Women's College.

Peace and take care of yourself.
