    Default Question about changing period

Hi I am 36 (almost 37) I've had 2 kids and a pretty decent health record. I've always had pretty regular periods about 30-35 day cycle.

Since December 2010 I've been experiencing something really off. My period in December was almost non existent, as in I hardly had to use a pad at all. In January it was 5 days late and very light like Decembers, but two days after I started it became very heavy and lasted for about 10 days.

I didn't have one in February and now in March, 42 days after my january period I have another bout of super light spotting, but no real period. I don't even have to wear a pad at all. I took a pregnancy test and I am not pregnant.

I know the logical answer is to go to my doctor, but in October of 2010 we lost our insurance through an employer and haven't been able to get new insurance because we can't afford personal coverage. I can get insurance through my employer, but I have to wait until open enrollment in May.

I don't know what to do right now, I am very scared. I do not really have any other health issues besides that I am overweight. I'm not sick or in any pain. I am just wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else and if they might have some advice for me while I am waiting to be able to apply for the insurance.

I have two little boys and right now I am kind of freaking out thinking it might be something serious like cancer or something. Is there anyone out there that has ever had something like this happen? Could it be premenopause? Are there other symptoms that go along with cancer besides irregular periods? Please if you are or know a doctor or anyone that can offer suggestions, I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks

If you are having no other issues, I'd lean more towards either a hormonal imbalance that will work itself out, or premenopause. Strange things happen sometimes with our bodies. I was regular on avg 30 day periods for almost a year, then for the past two months I've had over 40 day cycles due to late ovulation. I'm 27. Go figure.

I know it's hard not to freak out when things seem strange, but listen to your body. Are you having ANY other symptoms that are out of the ordinary for you?
