I am under a doctors care right now but its the weekend so I can't do much till monday.

Ok I have severe irregular periods for the last 2 yrs. I can be off or on a period for months. Just recently I had a period for 6 months!

So my Doctor decided to try my on birth control. He gave me ortho tri cyclen lo.
since I was on a never ending bleeding cycle he told me start as soon as I want. So three weeks ago I began and for the first 2 weeks I had no bleeding. Of course I knew and anticipated possible break through or spotting.
On week 3. I began to spot and break through bleed every day. I literally felt like I could just explode with period for that week and sure enough , one day before I was to begin taking the placebo bills, I began to bleed HEAVY
Oh goodness I cannot even begin to describe to you how bad this is. I am using the largest pads you can imagine and changing every 2-3 hours.
Its very very clotty. especially when I sleep, i wake up and any sudden move means i am jumping out to the bathroom and 99 percent of the time leaked due to the heavy change in flow.
I called the nurses hotline and they said if you fill 3 pads in 3 hours go to the hospital. I am not doing that and have no other symptoms other then being very clotty and very heavy.
I am scared honestly I have been irrgegular for a while now but never had this many clots and pad changes before.
Has anyone else ever had this happen on the pill in the begining? Is it possible when I began the pill i still had blood to shed and am now having like a double period?
Anything you can say here please.. I live with all men and have no support right now and I am freaking out.

A low dose pill was probably not the best choice for a situation this extreme. I would just listen to the nurse. If you soak through 3 heavy pads or I would also say heavy tampons in 3 hours without it letting up go to the ER. Otherwise you should be fine until you can call the doctor on Monday. Alternatively if you have an urgent care clinic that is open on weekends you could go there. Unless you are bleeding out too much and need a transfusion I'm not sure there is much they can do though besides give you a different pill and wait for it to work. That would take at least a few days.

I found the only pill that stopped my heavy periods as a teenager was yasmin. I went through 5 pills to find that out and went through another 3 more recently in my life. Everything else had breakthrough bleeding constantly or just plain did nothing and my period remained random and heavy. Mine never lasted more than 2 weeks but I'd soak through a heavy tampon and pad every half hour for the first 2-3hours in the morning. "clots" are simply uterine tissue that has come off in a larger piece which is normal for some people.

You might want to take some iron pills or at least a multivitamin. Heavy bleeding is likely to result in anemia.
