Hi. I am new to the board. I joined a while ago but am just now posting.

I am 29 years old and mother of one son.
For the last few years my periods have become unbearable. They have always been a force to reckon with but now they have taken their toll.
My doctor did ultrasounds and she says nothing is wrong with me, but why do I hurt so bad?

I do not present with normal endometriosis symptoms. I do not have bleeding between periods so my doctor does not think that is the issue. My cycles are actually longer than normal. they swing between 34 and 37 days. My bleeding can be very heavy and clotted, the pain is awful. I swell to the point where I cannot fit into to any of my pants. Sitting down hurts and going to the bathroom is so awful that I have actually began to have anxiety when I know I will have to go soon. Urinating has even started to hurt within the last year. I run a fever and I actually feel as if my body is sick. Since my issues have gotten this bad I have had 4 miscarriages. We now have decided that we are fine with not having anymore children.

The first few days of my periods are the worst, but my symptoms actually start with ovulation. I get very nauseous and I hurt in my lower abdomen and lower back. The sides of my breasts swell. The excessive breast swelling started 4 years ago. It started during a cycle and has been like clock work ever since like someone flipped a switch. They don't just get painful, they get hot and puffy and the change in size is visually noticeable. Another change is my intolerance of birth control. Birth control makes me so ill that I cannot take it. That is a new occurrence that started about 4 years ago. I used to take BC regularly when I was younger with no issues.

I don't care what name they call it, but I have something strange going on with my hormones and I want my life back. This is not normal or natural. No human should have to live like this.

My husband can see that this is only getting worse. While he has been very caring his understanding is wearing thin and he is getting frustrated. I find it hard to be able to work during the worst parts of my cycle and employers are not willing to employ a defective employee. He said he would like me to find a permanent fix to this problem and soon.

Even with all of my period troubles my biggest up hill battle of all is convincing my doctor that I cannot deal with this. That my pain really does hurt in more ways than one. My life is suffering from this. My husband and I do not want children. I have told my doctor that I would like to have whatever I need removed to just be removed. They just do not think I am in that much need. How do you convince someone that your pain is real?

This just screams hormones out of balance.
Find another doctor. They are human and some of them are far better in one are than they are in another. All doctors are not the same.

This is not a matter of removing anything, that will only create other problems because the "whatever" that would be removed would most likely be your ovaries and they do for you what testicles do for a man. You need them all your life.

Two books I recommend to start educating yourself are; The Wisdom of Menopause (because she does a really great job of explaining how all the hormones work together and what various imbalances can do to you) and The Hormone Diet, which also explains this balancing and how your diet affects it. You need a full check of all your hormones. What we think of as estrogen for example, is actually three different hormones and any one of them out of balance can cause problems and those can snow ball and set of a series of additional imbalances as your body tries to compensate.

Educate yourself, change doctors, get tested.
