    Question Period cramps...no period..

so this is my situation that I've got going on....

in March I had my tonsils removed (Mar.26) I stopped taking my BC a day or two before my surgery because I knew that I would be on pain meds and antibiotics and those will cancel out the pill anyways. I got my period on the 29th and it was fairly light and only lasted 3 days...mine are usually heavy and last for 5 days. I stayed off the pill, since I was still on my meds. Its been over a month now and I still haven't gotten my period, but I'm experiencing period like cramps - have been for a week now. Also I lost about 10lbs while recovering...maybe all of these things have affected my cycle? I've taken 2 HPT and both have come up negative, I'm so confused now and don't know what to do...has anyone else had something similiar to this happen before?

any help would be greaaatly appreciated!!

    THANKS!

I think what you're experiencing is the repercussions of not taking the pill regularly. The pill tricks your body into thinking it's pregnant so that you don't ovulate. When you are in a cycle and stop taking it, your body starts slowly going back to normal and will try to ovulate. You should always continue your pill even if you are on antibiotic, however, you should use extra protection until you start your next pack of pills after taking antibiotic.

So your body is confused. Should I ovulate? Should I menstruate? The period cramps but no period are nervewrecking because you never know when the flood gates are going to open.......but I'd say they are quite normal given the circumstances.

Give yourself some healing time. Once you your next period, get back started on your pill (if you're going to get back on it) and from that point on, don't miss any pills. You'll get back on track within the next couple months.

Hope you're healing up from your surgery!

That's what I was thinking too...and hoping! LOL. My body is just so messed up from everything that its been through the past month or so, and now its trying to adjust and get back to normal. I've been stressing sooo much over this now, thinking I was pregnant....I'm sure me stressing isn't helping my poor body one bit!

Thank you for responding so quickly!! PHEW!

Girl, I have been there! I know that feeling and that worry and every little thing that happens you think "I wonder if this is a sign of pregnancy!?". Could you be pregnant? Sure. But if you've taken a test and it was negative, I would chalk it up to exactly what you said: Your body has been through ALOT over the past month. give it a chance to repair itself. Eat good healthy foods, drink lots of water (go easy on the caffiene), try to get some moderate exercise even if it's just a walk a day.

Stress CAN and does delay ovulation, and when ovulation is delayed period will be delayed too.

With that said, make SURE you are using backup protection right now, and even when you get started back on the pill give yourself at least a month of taking it before you stop using your backup method.

Relax, take a deep breath, and things will work out just fine.

I'm back to a normal diet now...no more liquid diet, YAY!! I eat healthy, and excersise regularly...except for the 3-4 weeks when I was still healing. But now I'm back at it..just gotta stop stressing now, haha! Let my body do its thaaang!

Thank you again for your input!
