Default Extra period, heavy, no pain, on the pill

Hi all. I'm a tad concerned, and waiting on a return phone call from my doctor. Hoping someone can shed some light on this.

I finished my regular period, with no complications or irregularities, 4 days ago. Yesterday, I suddenly started to bleed heavily again (with more clotting than usual), continuing through today. I have NO pain or other side effects whatsoever. Going through a tampon-per-2-hours. Really odd for me.

    Some facts about me:
    • I've been on the generic form of Ortho Trycyclin for years.
    • I'm 31, never been pregnant, not planning on it.
    • My periods, even prior to being on BC, were a tad heavy, but VERY regular and generally cramp-free (I know, LUCKY.)
    • I'm also hypothyroid, after Radioactive Iodine treatment for Graves' Disease. Taking 120 of natural thyroid replacement Armour for 2 years, and levels are good.
    • I do take supplements and Juice Plus every day.
    • Highly doubt I'm pregnant. Haven't had sex for a week and a half (before normal period), and for a month prior to that he didn't finish. I understand it's still possible to get pregnant even if he doesn't finish normally, but especially with my thyroid condition, conception is unlikely in that scenario.

The ONLY thing I can think of is that I took my BC pill an hour early yesterday. But that's such a minor detail.. and has been done before without side effects... that I doubt it's the culprit.

Any ideas? Trying to wait patiently for the doc to return my call.... *drums fingers on desk*

Sometimes life is just a mystery and many of us have had things like this happen and never have known why. With thyroid and Graves you do have some extra cards in the deck. I hope your doctor will be able to put your mind at ease.

Just curious, if you are on the pill and aren't practicing some tantric technique, why doesn't your lover "finish"?

Hi Wildchild. Thanks for the support. Hopefully it's just a quirky occurrence and nothing serious.

Not sure why my husband has issues finishing. He's got no problem "starting", never has (so, yay for that). But sometimes it seems like there's a point maybe 20 mins in (after trying to last longer), where it's just not going to happen and we just give up. Some of those times could be alcohol related.. like after a night of drinking. It's frustrating for him, but it's not that persistent. Just here and there. For whatever reason this happened the last 3 times for us... which is why I doubt I'm pregnant & had a miscarriage. (Plus, being that there's no pain at all, writes off a lot of possibilities)

Day 3. The doc called me back finally and told me not to worry. Of course, I still am as this VERY uncharacteristic of me, over the 20 or so years I've been menstruating. She said if it goes on after tonight, to call back again. She asked if I've had a lot of stress in my life, and I told her nothing I don't usually deal with... I'm busy, but not over-stressed. No new meds, exercise level is the same, still taking BC on time in the morning. This doesn't seem to be letting up. The flow is bright red, not brownish like normal... and the clots are getting bigger, larger than a quarter now. Wondering if since I tend to not get a ton of clots, if the lining built up over the years and is NOW shedding everything. Why now, and why it built up, no idea.. just me brainstorming. Would love to hear more thoughts or shared experiences. My paranoid mind is taking me places I shouldn't be going... miscarriage, pregnancy, cancer... etc.

Just an update. Yesterday I went to the ER per my OBGYN.. she said if I was filling a pad an hour (and it was just about that, for 2 days straight), I should go to the ER. After a ton of bloodwork, ultrasound (inside and out) and other exams, they had no answers for me other than the vague and non-informative "Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding". Yeah, I coulda told ya THAT. What was ruled out by these tests:
    Pregnancy
    Miscarriage
    Cancer
obstructions/problems with the uterus or ovaries
    anemia
    tumors or similar issues
    PCOS

So... still no answers... still filling a tampon-pad-combo every 2 hours. Feeling fine, no pain no lightheadedness. MY OBGYN instructed me to double-up on the BC pill for 3 days and if doesn't stop by Monday to come in for an exam. If anything changes (pain, dizziness), I'm supposed to go back to the ER. Otherwise, pretend nothing is wrong I guess?

    Pshh.
