    Thumbs up Hey,

Well I went through this very depressing period last year November 2010. This was what I went into celebrating my 21st birthday with, a period that was not supposed to have been there. It lasted for about 3 months. . I was in and out of my gyno's office. It was ... horrible. I'm surprised that I am still sane to this day. Every time I thought that it was going to end it didn't. I was on all sorts of pills. My gyno even gave me some pills that was meant to stop the period entirely. Those didn't work. [Plus I did not even take all. There is something wrong with taking a pill that supposed to stop something that supposedly comes naturally].

Anyhow I ended up on Yaz Birth Control Pills. Which I was very much against, as it is already difficult [more like next to impossible] for me to have children. I did not want to take anything that would prohibit me from doing so. But I discussed the option with my bf of three years and we decided to give it a go. Before I was able to pop the first pill in my mouth one of my co-workers [nosy people] told me that the Yaz BCP were on recall. So of course that put me on a halt and I had to run to give my doctor a call and query about it. He eventually checked with the pharmacist and told me later on that afternoon that they werent on recall.

But of course I went on to trusty ole' Goodle and researched for myself. There was a batch that was on recall....but not the ones that I were given. I was a bit skeptical but I went ahead to take them in faith.

But I was given specific instructions to take all the rest pills except [the 4 white ones / the hormone pills that serves the purpose of restarting my period]. I went through my first pack faithfully, still nothing happened. I went back to the pharmacy for my second pack by then I was starting to pray to God. Things were getting ridiculous. [I really hate leaving home when I have my period]

Anyhow.. I said all this to say that upon finishing my second pack which was around February my period STOPPED!! I never thanked God so much in my life. And I guess I can say that the pills did help because my cramps are not as bad as they used to get. And my period lasts about 5 days [before it used to last around 7-12 days. And that was regularly]

I did not get to read all the posts. But trust me there is hope for US!! I hope this helps.

Hey everyone, I hope I can help many other women out there with my post. I'll give you my background, then how I managed to end my prolonged period.

I'm 20 years old, just shy of 21. As many others have said I'm slightly overweight, though not obese. I'm a student with no health insurance unfortunately, so after my period hit the 2.5 week mark with no signs of stopping I knew I had to start doing some serious research into this. There are very many factors that play into why this happens, some serious, some not as much. I strongly suggest each of you do your own research, to track symptoms and possible causes, as well as consult a doctor if you can. For myself, I've been crazy stressed, having had a near mental breakdown for the first time, followed by some very unhealthy eating habits.

My period started off really light and brown, which was highly unusual. I've always had irregular periods, mostly because they've always been very stress sensitive, and it wasn't uncommon for me to miss one due to stress. However, this one started rather odd, for a few days it was the weird brown, then it finally became my normal period flow...which never stopped. Due to no insurance I looked up more natural remedies, and found a suggestion for ginger snaps on this forum. I didn't really think it'd work but I had ginger snaps already so I tried it...no cigar. Ginger, although good for you, probably isn't going to help you much, so if you saw those comments I'd attribute them to coincidence. But if you like ginger snaps, it won't hurt

I had since found suggestions for Yogi's Moon Cycle Tea, which I immediately went in search for, due to its ingredients which have been known to reduce symptoms and help regulate female hormones. Specifically Dong Quai and Chaste Tree Berry. I've read comments on other forums of people who have taken Chaste Tree Berry extract, I believe in pill form, and it helped them. I had to order this tea online because no store in my tiny town carried it. But lo-and-behold, after 3 days of drinking the Moon Cycle Tea, my formerly heavy period has stopped completely! The first day I drank two cups of tea and there was little change. The second day my period went from heavy to rather light, and I drank 3 cups of tea throughout the day. The third day (that was yesterday) my period stayed light and I had two more cups of tea. And today, the 4th day, my period is gone! Also, I started shopping at my local co-op store, which carries mostly all organic items from organic whole grain mac and cheese, to organic eggo's and organic poptarts. Although overweight I've always been active, it was mostly my eating habits that weighed me down. I'm speaking to this like me, this is the perfect kick to change unhealthy habits. I don't know if it's contributed to my period stopping or not, but I know it will be a very healthy and refreshing lifestyle change that I most definitely needed. But-back to the miracle tea, as I dub it.

Now, I'm going to warn you that this tea probably only works if you're bleeding because of a hormonal imbalance, which can be caused by any number of reasons. If your bleeding is due to a cyst/fibroids, etc., you probably won't have luck with this tea/these herbs. Also, the herb Dong Quai, I've heard might be bad to take/ingest if you're on certain medications. Because I don't take any medications what-so-ever, I didn't thoroughly research it, but if you do and want to try this, then definitely ask your doctor and look more into it. Also, I don't think it has to specifically be Yogi's Moon Cycle tea (or Yogi's Woman's Energy, which also has Dong Quai but not chaste tree berry), you can probably find an equivalent of another brand as well, just be sure to look at the ingredients, and make sure none of them will have a bad affect on you due to medications. Again, I've also heard someone taking Chaste Tree Berry extract and it helped stopped her period.

To all of you suffering from prolonged (and/or heavy) periods, I hope this helps! I know I'm repeating myself but be sure to do your research! Most likely, if you have a hormone imbalance causing the extra long period this will help, but if it doesn't, be sure to go to a doctor whether you have insurance or not, because it could be signs of something much more serious. Good luck to everyone, and know that you don't have to suffer alone.

    Default HELP !

I am a 16 year old, and I have had my period for two months, There was a 2week break between, but it started up again and have had my period nonstop for approximately 7 weeks. I have been on birth control, but it doesn't seem to be helping. I've been so exhausted lately, and fear that I'm loosing to much blood, because my period has been very heavy [for me] and my cramps have been really bad... I visited my doctor, and got my blood taken and everything was fine.. She said that I might have endometriosis. I really hope I don't have that, but I can't think of anything else that it could be. My doctor suggested I see an OB/GYN to see what could be wrong..

Hi everyone! I think I found out what was wrong w/ my irregular periods and this might help any other women out there. I know that this thread is somewhat "dead", but I'm hoping to help any woman who may Google this and come upon this thread for help.

I posted a reply here about a year ago. I was getting periods that lasts 3-4 months at a time. They were very light for 2 months and would get heavy for another month or two. I basically, in short, had my period at all times. It was horrible. I even had my period on my wedding & honeymoon last year. It was not fun, but I'm not a doctor-type-girl..I just don't like going to them...so I tried dealing w/ the problem myself.

I am happy to say that I now have periods that come EVERY SINGLE MONTH and last only 5 days. I have not had one of those monster 3-month-long periods since July of 2011. I'll tell you guys what I did.

I began taking a multivitamin. It sounds like a really quick fix...but I am sitting here right now able to say that since taking a multivitamin on a DAILY basis, I now have periods that only last 5 days and they come every month..almost to the exact day. When I say multivitamin, I mean a GOOD multivitamin. Do not take Flintstone's chewables because they do not have enough vitamins in them. I'm actually taking a multivitamin that is intended for women who are 50+. This multivitamin does not contain any hormones, but it does contain a lot more vitamins and minerals than a regular multi that is intended for younger women. I actually take the Women's 50+ daily multivitamin that I get from my local Dollar General. It costs $4 and one bottle lasts about 2 months. You can also use Women's Centrum Silver (I think that is the name, but it's what my Dollar General multi is comparable to on the bottle).

I truly, honestly believe that many of us are (or in my case, "were") dealing with this problem because of a severe vitamin deficiency. I am not saying that you guys shouldn't visit a doctor and I'm also not saying that this is definitely going to work for you guys, but it did for me..and I was in the EXACT SAME boat as most of the posters on this forum thread. Please, just try this method & see if it works. I began taking a multivitamin in the spring of 2011 and my period stopped and actually began coming regular by June of 2011. I took the multi for about one or two months before it began taking effect and straightening things out. IT DOES NOT HURT TO TRY THIS AND YOU COULD VERY WELL SAVE YOURSELF FROM THE ANNOYANCE OF LONG PERIODS AND BEING FORCED TO TAKE BIRTH CONTROL PILLS TO REGULATE THINGS!

I have also lost 37lbs since July of 2011. Though the multivitamins helped to regulate things before that, losing weight probably has helped things further for me. I really believe that extra long, heavy, annoying light without getting heavy-type periods are caused by 1)a severe vitamin deficiency and 2) obesity. I really hope that my post here helps other girls and women who are dealing with the same thing. Please try this for a month or two & let me know if it works for you guys as well! I'm curious to see if this is the reason for women having long periods: a vitamin deficiency!
