Several years ago I had a period that lasted about 4 months, it would stop for a day and come back heavier than ever. I was weak, I was out of breath, I was bleeding entirely too much. At the time I was pretty overweight and the doctor thought that might have something to do with it, sometimes carrying extra weight can throw your hormones off. After I started losing weight my period returned to normal.

For those following this thread who experience cramping pains, I have found some relief in Yogi Tea's Woman's Moon Cycle blend. It doesn't taste great, but it certainly does the job, and that makes it great in my book. It relieves the cramps and moodiness, helps with the fatigue and other symptoms we might have from especially long periods. It seems to be changing the nature of my period, but I've only been taking it for a few days and it's back around to the correct time in my cycle for me to be having my period currently, so I'll post a follow up to let others know if I've had any success with it regulating my cycle.

Default Heavy Bleeding & possible natural cure

I wanted to share something that I recently discovered about heavy bleeding. I'm 42 and last February I had my Dr. insert the Mirena IUD to help control my ridiculously heavy periods. It helped only I just had spotting ALL THE TIME! After 6 months of non-stop bleeding, I asked her to take it out. As soon as she did, the heavy bleeding started again. I was thinking I was going to have to have a hysterectomy next summer because I just couldn't stand it. It was interfering with having a normal life 10 days out of each month! So I started looking for some natural cures. That's when I heard that Cinnamon was supposed to help. I thought hmmmm, cinnamon? I like cinnamon. What do I have to lose? So I bought cinnamon capsules at Walmart and started taking two in the am and two in the pm when my period came. I swear, it was like magic. Not only did the bleeding slow down, my cramps got better too! Then I thought, this has to be some sort of coincidence. It was just too good to be true. So the next month, I took it again and same thing. Lighter periods. Now don't get me wrong, I still had a pretty decent period, but at least I wasn't what I called "hemmoraging" anymore. The kind of cinnamon I use is made by Rexall and it's called 100% Pure Cinn-max, Cinnamon 1000 mg for two capsules. For those looking for a natural cure, it's worth a try. I would caution though that the bottle says not to use if pregnant or nursing (although if you were pregnant, you obviously wouldn't be using it to lighten your period). Well, good luck!

DaraVose / Hopeless Dork / wlfrye - thanks for sharing. I don't smoke nor drink ... when I do... I can feel the adverse effects almost immediately. One of the reasons I hate and procrastinated going to a gynae is I know they are going to say my problem is because of my weight. I have been out of breath ever since putting on 20 kgs. Right now if I excercise, my stamina improves but when I stop for days, I can feel I am out of breath again.

I have heard of chinese herbalogy that helps to regulate the female organs / hormones but have not given it a try. I will try to see if I can find cinnamon capsules and Yogi tea here and give that a try as well.

My cycle seems to go on forever and most of the time with no cramps. If it ever stops, it stops for 2 weeks and then it's back on, sometimes it only stops for a few days. It can be very light or spotting or really heavy or extremely embarassingly heavy but all pain free. A week back I actually felt pre menstrual symptoms, swollen boobs, bloated like a beach whale and cramps in lower abdomen. My period came yesterday (stopped bleeding for 2 weeks) and now it's kinda heavy. I also noticed there are quite a bit of clots accompanied by some clear waxy liquid. I wonder if anyone has the same?

Hello Ladies... this was happening to me a few months ago, it lasted for 3months. My period was always irregular since I can remember. When I get married I started taking pills for 3 years but I had to stop cause of the effect on me. I didn't have period for on year... I took the pills again just to have period, and it didn't stop for 3 months. I was so worried, then I took multivitamin, my period stop. And now it didn't came at all it has been two months. Btw. my mother had a mayuma, she got her ovary removed, I hope I don't have that kind of problem. I dont have kids yet, am only 26 .

If by birth control you mean the birth control pill, I would say that I would never use it. Too many potential issues.

The television commercials are the best. Basically the commercial is five seconds of "we have a new birth control pill," which is then followed with thirty-seconds of how it will screw you up. No thanks.

"I used the birth control pill for a few years. Here is one weird thing that happened. My hair went from curly to straight. Then I stopped using the pill and my hair became curly again. My periods were not as bad when I was on the pill and much more predictable."
