    Question Tampon String

    Hey everyone,
I have recently decided to try tampons and I realized that there are some details that I have never thought about, but that now bother me.
The worst one of them being this: How do you avoid peeing on the string?

i have only been using them for about a year but once i started staying at my boyfriends house more i wanted to feel a little more discreet about it being my time of the month. i wasnt sure i'd like them but honestly once i got used to them i wish id started using sooner. i too was a little worried at first, i always worried what happened if the string broke so im in the habit of testing each one before i use it to put my mind at rest.

the peeing issue also came into mind, sometimes i'l place it in the crease where my leg joins and its mostly out of the way leaving it fairly clean, but honestly sometimes i dont even bother and just leave it (not the most dignified answer but its an honest one :P) half the time i usually still forget its there that i dont remember to think about the string when i head to the bathroom and by the time i do remember, its too late

i thought it would get covered but i found mine never got too bad, after a couple of months of getting used to them i didnt worry so much and just learnt to live with them..or be lazy in my case and not really care :P

you wash your hands after youve been to the bathroom anyway and but i'd like to know a way if there is one

I'm over 50 and frankly never thought about it and guess what? I have a healthy vagina! I understand why you are concerned but so long as you have good hygiene such as wiping well, front to back and hand washing, there is nothing to be concerned about.

Unless you have an infection, urine is fairly "clean".
People in desperate situations such as trapped after an earthquake, have drunk their own urine to keep from dehydrating and in some cases this has saved their lives.

Do be aware that unless you purchase organic tampons, they are loaded with chemicals. Make sure you change them every regularly. Forgetting to remove a tampon can have deadly or debilitating results.

It is recommended to change your tampon each time you urinate to avoid things like uti's and other infections. The fact of the matter is, you DO pee on the string...it's hard to avoid that each time, so the best thing to do is remove the tampon prior to relieving yourself, then put a new one in after you're done.

Ditto, Beautiful Disatster, just change it everytime ya pee, its not waisting tampons, you are being sanitary.
And kudos WildChild! Tampons acctually have some pretty bad chemicals in em', and I heard that some may put in chemicals to make you bleed more (just heard this one through the grapevine...no idea if it is true, but better safe than sorry, right?) organic 100 percent cotton is the way to go.

I always hold my string from behind, because some days while on my period I just feel very, very dehydrated so I drink lots of water and don't want to change my tampon every hour if my flow isn't that heavy.
