I'm not sure. My boyfriend and I have looked through a lot of it and on different websites, it's seems like pseudoscience and psychology to us. Again, not a fan :P There also seems to be many contradicting studies as well as studies that support it. I mean, on one website that was all for the menstrual synchrony contradicted itself in just one sentence: "Other studies have also found influences of male pheromones on women's menstrual cycles as well as evidence of female pheromones effecting men's hair growth." And another part suggesting that it could be the role of pheromones causing this phenomenon: "While it did not definitively prove that pheromones were acting causally, it did offer tantalizing evidence". That's like an astronomer finding a new star from another solar system and saying that since we can't find any planets orbiting it, this shows evidence that they're not there. It's just not logical.
I also believe that with the "menstrual synchrony", many females would mostly remember when their periods coincide with other close females, rather than when they don't. I mean, I remember when my sister and I have had periods around the same time, but they are always different lengths, like we start on the same day once, her period is finished in 3 days, a week later and mine is still only easing off.
I believe that the menstrual synchrony is more likely due to coincidence than underlying psychological reasons, since there are many studies contradicting it also. Plus, the huge variation between the cycles at home are vast; that is my mum having no periods, my sister having regular three day long periods approximately every month, and then myself, getting two to three periods a month lasting anywhere from three to fourteen days (I have had one period though that lasted just short of four weeks).
