Hello everyone. This is my first post and after a trip to the doctor I feel I am getting nowhere with them.
Here's my story (in brief) I have just turned 27. About 6 years ago I lost weight, 11.5 stone to about 8 in about 6 months-1 year. I was exercising excessively and eating little. However my hair begun to fall out and my periods stopped. I had been on the pill since 16 and had never experienced particuarly heavy periods/pain etc.
I soon realised I had to stop the exercising and had to sort my eating habits out and have sat comfortable between 9 and 10 stone for a couple of years now.
My main concern is that my periods did not and have not come back. I was advised to come off the pill about 2.5 years ago so that hormone levels etc could be measured. I did come of the pill and am still off it.
I have gone to my gp on a couple of occasions to raise my concerns. I also have no sex drive and wondered was it all linked, had I gone through the menopause (I did have a period of horrific night sweats) or was I not going to be able to conceive etc.
When I went to my GP in March he refereed me to the gyn clinic,. After waiting 4 months for an appointment the doctor took some blood tests (all of which had been taken before) to measure hormone, testosterone etc etc. I received a letter advising me that all levels were adequate and that his assumption was that my cycle should return in the near future..... Near future I hear myself scream..... its been years!!!
I went back to my gp today as I have been with my partner for 12 years and starting a family is definitely the next stage for us but something we havent actively seeked because of the lack of periods. My GP told me that when I was ready he would refer me, as per the gyn doctors letter, for a process something beginning with 'c'. Excuse me for forgetting the name, but basically it is to stimulate the ovaries.
Wow, this hasnt been so brief after all but I am looking for advice, ANY advice as I feel like I have been pondering this for years now and getting nowhere!
Any advice would be appreciated! Do you think I should be seeing another GP? Has anyone else had periods stop this long?
Thanks guys
