Hello (new to this),

My period has always been irregular. I had my first period at age 11 (20 now). Sometimes I'll go 6+ months without ever having my period, and other times I'll menstruate for 8+ weeks straight.

Here's the problem: I'm currently on a 9 week heavy period while ON birth control.

I went to the Student Health Center to get a few packs of birth control because this is what my doctor always gave me to help regulate my period. I can't see my doctor anymore because I don't have health insurance, so I have to rely on Nurse Practitioners at the college.

Every week I came in I told the nurse that BC isn't working and I'm bleeding more heavily now that I'm on the pill. She shrugged it off and told me it's normal because my body is just adjusting to it.

I went in today and told her I'm on the final day of the pack and still bleeding heavily. She says, "So you're on the birth control and still bleeding? Heavily, too? Well, that can't be good."

Well, clearly.

Now she prescribed me medroxyprogesterone and I'm hesitant about taking it. I read about the side effects and I don't think any of it is worth the risk.

I don't know what to do, I'm at a complete lost. And the biggest reason why I don't want to take medroxyprogesterone is because I can't even get myself to trust the Nurse Practitioner. I don't feel safe with the way she's been handling me.

What do you think I should do?
Should I try medroxyprogesterone?
Should I start a new pack of birth control (skipping this month's placebo) and see what happens?

Please, please help.
