Default PMDD Its killing my family!!

    Hello All,

I need help!! Since my wife gave birth to our first child she has had, what i called, severe PMS. The week before her periods she becomes a different person, she gets depressed, can't sleep, hates being married, hates being a mum, irritable, angry, moody, the list goes on. The day her period starts she is back to normal, the amazing loving woman i fell in love with.

Every few months or so this does not happen before her period, but the next pre period episode is a million times worse, she just does not think like a normal rational person. Currently we are going through this ordeal, this time its bad, she is talking about leaving. I know if i can keep her calm and cool until her period starts then she will be ok and won't leave. But what if i can't?

The hardest thing of all is she does not realise there is a problem! I have been researching for a while know and finally found something called PMDD, i am convinced this is what she has.

What can i do? PMDD is killing my family and i feel powerless to stop it. I feel like my heart and soul is being ripped out from inside me.

PLEASE, PLEASE can someone tell me how i can get my wife to see she has PMDD anf get treatment.

She has to make the decision to go. You can talk to her and show her everything you have found but unfortunately, it is her decision whether to be seen and treated.

You can try to tell her how this is causing problems within the family. This may be a stretch, but maybe record one of her outbursts, then when she is back to normal, explain to her your concerns and show her what you had recorded. Maybe that will convince her.

Lol the thought of trying to record her when she is having an 'episode' scares the life out of me, she would stab me

I have tried talking to her, many times! She just does not buy into it. When she is 'normal' i have told her what happens, what the cycle is, what she will say, what she will do, the problem is she thinks its funny, she just can't see it. I have even written it down, what will happen and it what order. First she hates me, no longer loves me, Then she hates being a mother, then she can't sleep etc etc etc etc She thinks is coincidence that it happens each month.

Don't get me wrong, i am not here to moan about my wife! She is an incredible woman, i love her more than life itself and i would and will do anything for her, which is why i am here. I just really need some advice from someone who has been through this, how can i make her see there is a problem?

LOL - Well, when I said record her, I meant discreetly, lol. I would have stabbed my husband too.

I went through SEVERE PMS or PMDD for about 6 months, about a year ago. I know the feelings. I wanted nothing to do with my family the week before my period. I was a total witch, it was so so rough. I completely regret those times and making my husband go through that. First day of my period, life was grand again.

However, I knew I was being a mental case whereas she doesn't. I went to my gyne and got put on Zoloft. I would take it 2 weeks a month. I took it for 4-5 months and weened myself off of it and have been relatively fine since then. I also noticed that when I kept track of everything and knew it was coming close to my freakout week I was more cognizant of my behavior.

After talking to my gyne in further detail about it. Discussing how heavy my periods were, the backaches, the headaches, everything. He said he feels that the severity of PMS symptoms had something to do with how heavy your periods were. He explained it in more detail. Anyways, he asked how I felt about having an ablation done, which would eliminate or greatly reduce my periods. I had it done in July and haven't had a period since. No period = no PMS = superb life = happy husband and family. LOL

I don't know. I wish there was an easy solution. It is unfortunate that she doesn't see how her behavior is effecting everybody else.
