My girlfriend says that her period cycle isn't monthly, but more like 3 months up to 9 months!! I don't know much about this so if anyone could let me know if this is really bad or if I should think its no big deal.

    Thanks.

What exactly does she say her cycles are? Meaning, having a period bleeding everyday for 3 months or having several mini periods in succession in a cycle pattern of bleed and no bleed? Or is she saying she is simply moody in cycles?

She has a period once every 3 - 9 months.

Has she gone to a doctor to discuss this? If so what did they say? A period so infrequently is due to hormones being out of whack. Birth control pills can help with regulating an otherwise irregular period.

    I don't know.
She uses Nuvaring regularly which keeps it monthly, its 3 -9 months otherwise.

If she is coming on and off of the birth control Nuvaring it will cause periods to go out of sync because the body was used to seeing the birth control there and then it is gone. When you stop using it your body shifts over to trying to regulate things and that can take a lot of time hence the irregularity. So if she is using Nuvaring it is important that she keeps using it regularly as prescribed.

Next time she goes to her OB-Gyn, ask if it's okay for you to join her so that you can understand more and help her with whatever. Just my .20.
