Default Second opinion on some bad menstrual problems

I went to the doctor today and was looking for a second opinion on this and maybe some personal stories from people who might have been through the same.

I've had horrible periods since I started at age 9, including horrible cramps, extreme irregularity, blood clots, extreme bloating, spotting, very heavy bleeding and other common problems such as mood swings and headache. A typical dose of ibuprofen at the time seemed to work for a while, but it's been getting worse over the years. I've never been regular, I've found blood clots to be a constant problem (one day I passed one that was the size of a clementine) and cramps that have been getting worse and less reactive to anything. The past few months the pain has been so awful I can hardly stand, my lower back and head are also hit hard. I tried many different available medicines, including herbals, on top of typical things like using a heating pad, exercise, diet and a warm bath, yet they don't even work, only a few barely touched the pain. It's just crippling and becoming a real ordeal, I was unable to attend school this month and last because of how bad some of the cramps were.

Naturally I decide I've had enough and call the doctor. But after telling her this same bit of information and suggesting an ultrasound to see if I have any underlying cause, she just told me I was being overly sensitive and that what I was going through was "completely normal." She said an ultrasound wouldn't help at all because she was "certain that nothing is wrong," despite me having a family history of fibroids. She simply suggested to try more ibuprofen and put me on birth control, but something still doesn't seem right. Despite consistent nagging, I told them to temporarily hold off on the birth control since I'm rather doubtful. Has everyone had any success with this to aid these rather unpleasant periods? Any feedback is helpful, because this doesn't seem normal to me if it's been going on for a majority of my life.

Thank you very much, Tara! Sorry you're going through the same thing, I hope things work out well for you!

And it's interesting you mentioned the blood clots. My doctor told me that they were from my irregular flow and that they don't have time to break down or get "processed" like the rest of the blood. Either way, it's just icky! I will definitely look in to this issue and seek out an ultrasound.

Have you ever researched endometriosis or adenomyosis? I suffered from both for years. An ultrasound may show other things, but these are diagnosed with a laparoscopic surgery. Find another doctor. You don't need to suffer like you are.
