    Question crazy periods

i'm 19 right now. i got my first period when i was 14. then at 15 they stopped. and came normal at 16. then i had one for over 2 weeks, then nothing. so one of my doctors put me on bc. but i switched doctor when i was 17, and she thought the bc was for... well sex i guess. so she took me off it, said i can get it through a gyno. then this past year i explained why i was on bc, and she now has me taking prvero every 3 months so that i have a peirod. i'm assuming for health, i think i read somewhere that if you don't have a period at least every 3 mo it raises your risk for cancer, i don't remember where exaclty but likt overies and such. which is probably a big deal for me, because my mother would get overian cysts, and had to have a tumor removed when she was 15 (how she met my dad long story, but he had a cyst removed from his lower back... and my brather had to have the same thing when he was 17)

but i heard online from various people that provera is actually bad for you to take? please some other advice would be helpful. also will i be able to get pregnant later i life? (my mother had 3 childern, but at least 5 miscarriages)

i have aslo had juvenile diabetes since i was 12, and hypothyroidism (my mother has it too) and my kidneys are not doing so good. ( when i was 16, my current doctor told me i had PCOS? but this new one didn't say anything, just put me on provera) this doctors were endocrinalogist (?) but for my kidneys i'm taking losartan, tyroid i'm taking synthroid. and i just switched from humolog to novolog insulin.

any thoughts, suggestions? i realize not to take any comment as medical advice, but i would appreciate some outside opinions. please and thank you!

Hi cheyenne, I'm not on Provera & no very little about it but I DO know what it's like to go through the with crazy periods. I've had them all my life, I went a long time without one without really understanding how dangerous that could be. When I finally got on BC, it helped me have periods but when I ceased, they went away again. The only thing right now that actually is helping me stay regular is Progesterone therapy but that's because I'm 26 & I'm trying to prepare my body for pregnancy. If I was in your situation, where you sound like you arent at that stage, I would def. try to find a regimen like you are with BC. I hope some women in here no more about Provera. I will say that I understand what it's like to have several conditions rolled into one, I have epilepsy & then these problems with my period. They all affect one another, medicine for one may cause problems with the other, etc etc. As far as PCOS goes, it's hard I think to diagnose. Right now I'm in that stage where they think I might have it because I have several symptoms but I'm not experiencing others. I know that symptoms of diabetes are similar to some symptoms of PCOS & vice versa so I DEF think it's important to get some good doctors & really discuss things with them. Don't be afraid to sit down with you GYN, I had to do it. Then, because I wasn't getting the response I wanted, I switched doctors. That's the best thing I can tell you, to really look into some good doctors to have with you on this, it's tough I know but that's your best bet.

I hope I helped some, even if it was just some support! I know how you feel, just keep up the research & fighting for answers.
