I'm a healthy 24 yr old who has not had her period for 9 months!! My doctor first put me on a "hormone challenge" which was a prescription (I don't remember the name) I took 5mg for 10 days, this was supposed to jump start my period. Nothing happened. She then put me on the same drug, but did 10mg for 5 days. Nothing happened again!!! not even a drop of blood. She had already done a blood test and everything seemed fine. I did an ultrasound (gee what fun) and everything seemed normal. She referred me to a gynecologist.

I went to the gynecologist yesterday, and she told me that my uterine lining was too thin. Mind you, I have never been pregnant, am not anorexic, and am no marathon runner. I say this because apparently, this usually happens to anorexic girls or marathon runners. Also, my estrogen level is a quite low. She put me on estrogen and progesterone (i think) for the next 3 months. These pills SHOULD make me get me period within the next 25 days.

I have been pretty scared this last year. I mean on one hand, i wanna say "oh great I don't have to worry about my period, no tampons, yay!!" but really, this scares me. I do not want kids any time soon, but I would like the option in the future. The Dr. assured me this will not affect my ability to conceive.

Sorry this message is a little long, but it feels good to just rant a little. Anyone know what any of this means? It's kind of scary, but I'm sure I'll be okay, i just don't understand what is going on!!

there are many reasons our periods sometimes stop i lost my period for three years it turns out i had a thyriod problem and hormonal imbalance a good gynocologist or a good pcp can get to the bottom of your problem tecnically women dont need more than 4 periods a year have them check your thyriod levels and hormonal levels usually they can give you the pill which should regulate your periods other factors than can stop your period can be to much dieting extreme exercising. stress and illnesses again my advice see your doc and get a proper check up i hope this helps you take care jen

I've taken the estrogen for 10 days now, I haven't even started the progesterone yet and I already have a little bit of brown discharge!! YAY!! This is the first sign of any kind of period in the last 9 months!! I don't know if this will be an actual full period, or just a little discharge, but at least it's something. I didn't even have a drop of blood the last 9 months, It's about time!!
If this winds up being a full period I don't know if I even need the progesterone, guess i should go back to the gynecologist and find out.
Thank you so much for the replies, if this is happening to anyone else (no period for way too long) please let me know. The reason i ask is so that i know if I really should keep you updated.
    Thanks again.
