Late period, negative HPT, spotting... on copper IUD!
I'll be as detailed as possible here, so please read whole post before responding! Thanks
So here's some background info. I have had the Paragard copper IUD for a couple of years now. Periods are somewhat heavy and mostly like clockwork, give or take a day or two. I have undergone NO lifestyle changes recently whatsoever. No stress, no new medications, no weight gain/loss, etc. etc.
However...
My period is now two weeks late, except for literally just one red and brown "spot" a couple of days ago (which at the time I thought was the start of my period!). I have NO pregnancy or PMS symptoms, and all home pregnancy tests have been negative.
It's not so much that I'm worried I might be pregnant... what I'm really freaked out about is a possible ECTOPIC pregnancy, as I have read that when women do (though rarely) get pregnant while on an IUD, there is a good chance it may be ectopic. I have an appointment with my doctor in a week but I would just like some feedback or peace of mind until then.
Any ideas? Please help!
I think that ectopic pregnancies will generally still cause an HPT to be positive. Sometimes periods just skip. There's probably a reason, but there's not really any explanation.
The best thing you could have done is make the appointment with your doctor. If there's a reason to be concerned, s/he will be able to find it.
