What you are experiencing is very normal. The average period is 5 to 7 days and varies for each woman. Each woman's time between cycles can also vary as well. Periods do occur approximately every three weeks, but the time can be shorter or longer depending on the woman and her mental and physical health. Also, the spotting of brown discharge is just risidual blood being released from the uterine wall. Blood turns a dark brownish color as time passes so don't be afraid of that. It's pretty much just a sign that you are nearing the end of your period.
