Hi everyone, I'm not sure if I have a problem and I'm a little bit embarrassed.

I've always had quite heavy periods and terrible period pains. I have been given quite strong pain killers for the pain, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. I can't have another pain killer because I have eating problems and so I'm quite thin.

Anyway, a few agos..maybe 6 months, I started getting the odd pain at randoms times in the month. It started off as cramp and I'd think I was going to get my period early but I didn't.

The last few months..2 or 3, I've had quite sharp pains at random times during the month.

I finished my period this month about a week ago and I've had sharp pains for the last 2 days. Sometimes it's only when I move my right leg as it's on the right side and sometimes it's just whenever. Today it was in the middle, like under my belly button. It doesn't last very long, sometimes just a few seconds. It's always just for a day or two and then not again until next month and it's not so bad that I have to take pain killers.

Also. My period has always been exactly 8 days. The 8th day would be the last day I would bleed. But for about 6 months now it's been longer. Between 10 and 12 days. About 4 months ago I got my period for 9 days, stopped for 2 days and then got more blood for another 3 days, only a little bit. I had it like that for 2 months. Now this month I bled for 11 days.

I'm too embarrassed to go to the doctor because I'd get embarrassed telling her and incase she says she wants to look, I'm a virgin so obviously no one has been down there

Also, I don't know if this is related but I have been so moody and irritable recently.
It doesn't take much to make me snap at someone.

It's horrible because I'll be having a really good day and then someone will speak to me and they don't even say anything horrible but it annoys me for some reason and I get in a mood. Like I can't have a normal conversation with someone anymore.

Sometimes I just wake up and I'm already in a mood!

I've recently lost a friend because of it.

And I'm teary eyed when I see someone cry on the tv, I never have been before.

You definitely sound like you have an irregular period, and I know you don't want to see your doctor, but I highly suggest seeing her for advice.

Are you on the birth control pill? I used to have heavy periods myself - that lasted 8 days, terrible cramps, moodiness, etc .. then I went on the pill and my periods went from 8 days to 7 days, and now I have it for 5 days (and very very light!)

Do you workout at all? I found that keeping myself active and eating healthy kept me less prone to pain. (Bellydancing is amazing for this! I'm an instructor, but that's a different story!)

Hope I helped a bit - and if you want to PM me, I have some great exercises that you can do that will strengthen your pelvic floor muscles

    Hi. Thanks for replying.
I'm not on any birth control pill, I was when I was 16 so I wouldn't get too much pain during exams but I didn't like it and now I'm 21, so that was 5 years ago now.
I exercise sometimes, I go for long walks a few times a week and I go to a Pilate class once a week. I'm quite an active person, I can never sit still.
I don't know how to send PM but I'd really like to hear about the pelvic floor muscles.

a lot of what you described are symptoms or endometriosis. As much as you don't like being examined it would be worth it for you to go to the doctor and explain what is going on. Sometimes just taking B/C can relieve pain. There are a lot of b/c bills out there. At least get it checked out or research endometirosis and see if your symptoms match. Good luck

Thanks sweetie27 I researched endometirosis and it does sound like I might have that. I think my aunty and my cousin had that, but I'm not too sure because my family don't really talk about things like that, I just know they had some problems. Also, what is b/c?

Get checked for it sweetie... B/C is a powder pain reliver. I assume that it is a southern thing, (I have only seen it in the southern states, correct me if I am wrong,) From what you posted, you need to be sure. Talk to your aunt, I know that you said that they were tight lipped about it, but if you said that you might have it too, she might be willing to talk about it. If not, talk to your Gyno...

Take care and keep us posted...
If you want me to remember it, tattoo it backwards on my forhead... I might see it someday...

Im so sorry you're going though all that... I would go to your doctor... I know its sometimes embarrasing to go but if you can find a nice lady doctor, it makes it soooo much easier.

I know endometriosis and hormonal imbalances can cause really bad and heavy bleeding.. I would see your doctor to rule those out... and maybe they can give you something to help with your pain.

    I hope you feel better!

Thanks for the replies and advice everyone.
    I haven't seen a doctor yet, but I will.
I'm due on my period the beginning of next week so I want to see how that one goes, note it in my diary..duration, pain, breaks etc and then I'll go see my GP.
