I have been taking birth control pills so I am not sure if this is a side effect of the pills or if it has something to do with my period. But basically the problem is that about five weeks before my period (I am not supposed to start until aug. 3) I started having these cramps I get one or two that make me double over and then for about a hour after I have a constant dull cramps in my stomach. I am not sure if the is a side effect of the birth control pills because I have gotten the nausea from them. Could my cramps be a side effect of my pills or is it something else.

Are you sure it is happening 5 weeks before your period? Because cycles average 4 weeks for most women. This would mean you were cramping either right after stopping or right before your period. For example, the first week of the month you have your period. Then you have no period for another 3 weeks. That is a total of 4 weeks. The 5th week (1st week of following month), you should be starting your cycle again. What I am getting at is that cramping usually occurs from 1 week before bleeding to several days after bleeding. Some women will experience random pain in their abdominal area throughout the month as their hormones fluctuate. So it is possible that this is normal.

However, there can be other problems that are causing your pains so I would see a doctor just to be safe.
