Can you please describe the pain you are experiencing? Is it similar to normal cramping? Have you ever experienced cramping before? Is it an aching, stabbing, or pinching feeling and where can you feel it?

For some reason, when tampons fill and blood starts to collect in your vagina, it causes cramps to become more intense. It is possible that you are experiencing normal menstrual cramping and that it was just brought on by the accumulation of blood. I personally know when my tampons need to be changed because I will start to get an aching feeling either in my abdomin or lower back. When I change it, sure enough, it's full, and then the pain goes away. So you might try making sure that you change them before they get too full and see if that helps. Or try changing the tampon and see if the pain subsides.

If the pain only happens upon insertion of the tampon, then you may have a sore or wound inside that is being irritated by the tampon.

If you think that it's not caused by too much blood accumulating, then you should stop using tampons and go see your gynecologist to make sure there is nothing going on in there.
