I am terrified of clowns, it's just an irrational fear (aka phobia) I just avoid places I know clowns will be..... if it will help you feel better, look up phobias.... I do it every once in a while/
I'll say to myself, "at least I'm not afraid of peanut butter sticking to the roof of my mouth, or at least I'm not afraid of big words" (yes, both are real phobias) and I feel better about all my crazy irrationalities (along with clowns, bridges, chickens, puppets and spiders) laugh at me if you want... they are silly and ill founded, but real fears nonetheless.

I had an idea while reading through this. Why don't YOU try dressing as a clown? Start small, a little of the face or hair, funny shoes or clothes and gradually do a little more. When you do this try to make someone laugh. Don't think of it as being a clown, think of it as being silly. This may help you get a positive association going and as you see your self in gradually more of the make up you would know that there is a good person behind it.
You can get over these phobias! I used to be terribly claustrophobic and while I don't like being in tight spaces, I no longer have a problem with an elevator or closet or being in a crowd (once went into hysterics and lost the ability to speak when caught in a very heavy crowd situation). I have even managed to work in a very tight attic space where I could only get in by scooting on my back and had no room to even turn, at one time in my life I wouldn't have even considered trying that. It was a matter of controlled conscious breathing and self talk.
