    Unhappy Scared Of Death

Ok so I go to church every sunday and last sunday my pastor was talking about how the end of the world is coming and stuff in the sort and ever since then death has seriously been on my mind. Even keeps me from gettin my mind to calm at night, my mind just goes crazy and so many thoughts run through my head and everything else. This may not seem normal and i may sound crazy of some sort but this has seriously been my biggest fear. I pray all the time and i have been told the reason i am scared is because i dont know if god has forgiven me of my sins.. but i just want to be able to control my mind and control my thoughts.. anyone have any type of suggestions as to helping me learn how to control my mind? more than likely not but anything is better than nothing. <33

Don't know if this will help, I'm not a Christian, believe we can make heaven or right here and the idea of death doesn't bother me because I know it's not the end. Life is energy, energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed. Death is the flip side of life, two sides of one coin. Sin has nothing to do with it.

The end of the world had been predicted, thousands of times. We're still here. The world as humans define it has changed many times, sometimes that is an end of sorts. But not The End. This type of stuff has been used repeatedly to control people, keep people living in fear and doubt - works pretty well doesn't it? Do an internet search on this, you can find all sorts of info on when people thought The End was coming throughout history - it's interesting.

You can learn to quiet and control your mind by learning to meditate. It isn't at all hard to do but does take some practice. Have you ever done any Yoga? Learned to control your breathing? Focusing on your breath is a first step. The Best Guide to Meditation, by Victor Davich is a good book to start with.

Thank you so much! I'll have to go to the book store and see if i can find that book.
I am thinking about doing Yoga but some of the classes are pretty pricey so we'll see. but thank you again!

You don't have to do yoga to learn to meditate. It's just that in yoga you learn controlled breathing. You can learn it on your own. It's one meditation method. The idea is to focus on something other than your thoughts and just be.

I'd think about it this way:

If your pastor and your church are right, then the end of the world means you go to heaven. If you don't think you have lived your life well enough, there is still time - if you truly repent your sins, and accept Jesus, he will welcome you into heaven. You have nothing to fear. (I don't know what faith you are, but redemption is one of the fundamental ideas of almost all Christian faiths).

If your pastor is not right, there is no reason to think the end is coming soon, and you have your whole life in front of you. Some day you will probably die, but that is a long time in the future. Whether or not you believe in god you should live your life as well as you can.

Yeah Im Christian. But Thank You For Everything Both Of You. I Guess I Need To Learn To Control My Mind And Learn To Just Livee. I'm Just One Of Them People Who Worry Way To Much. Once I Get Some Sort Of Idea In My Head Its Hard To Make It Go Away. And When My Mind Is Constantly Wandering And Thinking Of The What Ifs Or The Things That Are Not Positive I Make Myself Sick. My Sister Is The Same Exact Way. But I Appreciate Your Help<33*

Relax, you will die the way you would be able to handle it, that is why Jesus came and died for us. Maybe it is not death that scares you, but the way you could die. Drowning, burning and choking... that scares me.
I think nothing comes our way that we are not able to handle. God will help you handle it when your time comes.

It is difficult to fall asleep when your mind is racing with so many thoughts. When I can't fall asleep, I use this breathing technique:
    1. I turn my attention to my breathing
    2. where do I notice my breath? is it at the chest?
    3. then, I focus on my abdomen and inhale into the abdomen
    4. slow, deep breath to the count of 3
    4. I exhale to the count of 4

The exhale is always longer and slower than the inhale, it creates a relaxation response.

I also say some affirmations, depending on the kind of thoughts I am having. For example, if I am fearful, I might keep repeating "I am safe" while I do the breathing exercise.

I'm not religious at all but really this has nothing to do with religion. Either you are the type of person to worry and you have problems with obsessing over this sort of thing or you don't. Having someone make you worry more really doesn't help. The part that does have to do with religion is normally part of my advise would be to stop putting yourself in a situation or around people that make you worry and reminds you of these things. Not as possible here. You might want to think about talking to someone and looking into anxiety type treatments. I don't mean medication but sites, self help books, etc...
