Going through a bit of a bad patch at the moment and on friday night i got sooooo drunk!!!

This sounds so silly.... but it was in the pub i work in and everyone keeps taking the mickey.... I sound like i'm being so mard but my head is away with the fairies at the moment...

I'm waiting for some important health tests to come back.... its the anniversary of a friends death last year and i feel totally lost!!!

I'm completely humiliated by my behaviour, i just want to hide away!!!

I feel sick.... what can i do to help myslef feel better.... to take my mind of this....

It sounds so trivial but its driving me to distraction... its like my only answer at the minute is to have a drink... which is obviously doing me no good.... but nothing seems to be helping make me feel better!!!!

You thinking of all the negatives happening in your life, the medical, the death, and so the easy way out is a couple of drinks, is it not? You feel better? Do you? I mean you think it can take your mind off of it, but it bites you in the bum the next day, the hangover, the embarrasement, especially around a place you know people...

It's not trivial, your just now sure how to handle the "down sides" of life but you realise this is not the way to do it, or else you wouldn't have posted....

What positive things are happening in your life?

What things to you love doing?

Get your mind to focus on the good and realise that you can't change what ever the medical says, nor can you unforutnately change a death, you can say all the wonderful things you remember and you can say, what ever the news, i can do this...

And, you can, get out of that rut you are getting yourself into before you fall to far.

A few years ago I too was turning to the drink more and more to make the 'pain' go away. I didn't really realize what I was doing to myself until I begin talking with someone on the internet, this someone turned out to be a substance abuse counselor, I didn't know that for a while... she finally told me after it was clear that we were becoming friends. We talked almost daily, I guess with me starting to talk about what I was doing and with her being interested enough to help, she begin to get me to see that my drinking was me merely not willing to face things that had been happening in my life that was causing me inner pain.

With her help, I learned to talk about things that were bothering me so the inner pain wouldn't get so bad. I still have trouble with wanting to hold things in, but I have made some progress... enough that I don't turn to the drink anymore. In fact, I'm now to the point that I can take it or leave it, something which I thought I would NEVER get to.

Do you have someone close to you that you trust to be able to talk to about anything? Because this is what you truly need, someone who will spend the time with you and listen as you struggle to get through your painful challenges without turning to the drink!!
You may find that you are stronger than you think without that drink. I found out I was.

Silly sounding or not, I can understand what you mean.
My friend and I didn't talk about my 'problems' all the time. Basically it was just nice to have someone who was interested in getting to know me...we had all kinds of conversations and then eventually it would come back around to what might be bothering me at the time.
It sounds like you have a wonderful person already. Maybe he will be interested enough, and caring enough to help you get through this rough time.
Just remember the drink want take the pain away!!!
