Forgot to say what I do when I get depressed, is , you see I haven't been depressed in a long time because of doing all of the above. I use to be so depressed and would sleep all day (never see the sunshine), I would stay in my room (Never got fresh air). I didn't share my feelings, didn't even want to think about them. I didn't take care of myself, I wasn't concerned with my diet or exercise, I wasn't concerned with fixing up my hair nice or dressing up. I didn't worry about other people, I didn't care much.

I changed all those things about myself and since I have done so I am a much happier, more sane, more healthy person.

Because I realised I was in control of how I let things make me feel. I realised I was in control of how happy I allow myself to be, that others can do what they will, that life can do what it does but that I have a choice in how I react to it. I realised that we are given the gift of this life to make with it what we wish, I can choose to feel sorry for me, or I can choose to change. I chose to change. I chose to start seeing myself as the person I want to become and not the person I once was.

I made the decision, and I do believe in some cases it is a decision (not all cases, there are chemical imbalances etc) to be a positive person. To make the best tasting lemonade out each and every lemon , each and every day.

Fatin, first of all, salam alaykum and nice to see you on the forum (even though I'm still pretty new too, lol).

When I get depressed... I sleep. Try to escape all the feelings, all the thoughts, everything. I also exercise... well I exercise every day regardless, so I usually always feel better after I finish. It's very nice to pour all my energy into it, to push myself really hard, to run myself ragged... very fulfilling and freeing. I guess it's like the other poster (sorry your screen name slipped my mind and it's on the other page) who said that she struggles with cutting... indeed this is a form of self-induced pain also, but a more productive, scarless one.

Sometimes I get a Rockstar (sugar-free) energy drink, which really works wonders surprisingly. I like it way better than Redbull - although I still try to not have it often because I don't want any adverse side effects (or being awake all night). I had one today - I had been feeling really down, burned out from my internship, depressed from some stuff going on in my life, unmotivated, my head hurt... I just wanted to go home and go to bed. But I couldn't because I still had to go teach a class and tutor, so I got one and felt a million times better - it was amazing. I felt more awake, active, no headache, energetic, interested in life again... definitely an awesome quick fix.

I used to eat whenever I felt down, which ended up in me having to exercise waaayyy too much to keep my weight down. I finally stopped but then started drinking wine instead, so I definitely did that way too much. I stopped drinking wine several months ago, so now I'm just stuck with my feelings with no way out (I'm not back to eating as an escape but it's definitely a struggle!), except sleep... which I don't really have time to do...

Sunshine helps... warm weather... laughing at something... getting out of the house... helping someone else... venting on the forum...
