Unhappy Have you ever...

Have you ever felt so depressed that you are unmotavated to do anything? It hurts to smile, your eyes are burning from crying so much, cant find it in you to leave the house to do things that you once loved, have a dull ach in your chest that makes you feel as if your heart is broken, and dont even know why? Well that is how I'm feeling now and would really like to know how some of you got over it. It has gotten to the point where I dont even care about my college classes and if I miss one more class they will kick me out and give me an F for the class. I really need help to get rid of this feeling. My whole body aches and I dont know how much longer I can take this. Any thing will help me out right now. Thanks.

Yes Tasha, you are not alone in that feeling. I spent the good part of 2 years feeling that way. I realized that I was, in seeking comfort at that time.. doing things that were actually making it worse. Sleeping all day made me feel better at the time, shutting everyone out also put a band-aid on me not having to deal with people. But doing those things just drove me deeper in to the depths of depression.

Make sure that you are getting sunshine and fresh air, that has a HUGE impact on mood. Even though staying inside away from everyone feels like its the only thing you can handle - forcing youself to at least get out for a walk during the day is going improve your mood.

Taking care of your body also helps boost mood, getting exercise - whether you need to lose weight or not doesnt matter , but just doing it for health will get those endorphins pumping in your brain and also improve your mood.

Making healthy food choices, when we feed ourselves junk , it also has an effect on mood. Make sure to eat things nutrient filled and good for you. That will help make sure your not loading your body with sugars and other things that effect mood and over-all make us feel crappy.

Reach out to friends and family, you don't have to tell them you are depressed if you don't want to - but seek going for coffee with a friend, get yourself out of the house and just talking about anything at all can boost your spirits. If you don't have anyone in your life to turn to right now, coming here is a great step, expressing yourself instead of keeping things bottled will also make you feel better.

Last but not least seek finding to do something that helps someone else, be it answering questions on this forum, visiting an elderly reletive, volunteering somewhere that could use your help. Doing things to help others can make you feel wonderful inside.

im sorry you are feeling this way tasha. but the best thing you can do for yourself is to accept it. accept what you are upset about and be done with it. Kinda like wearing a t-shirt and taking it off. you wore it. and now its time to take it off. i know its easier said than done. but i have been there myself. everyone has. life is what you make of it. if you keep dwelling on negative thoughts it will just cycle throughout your life. i do have to stress that you need to take classes seriously. you will regret it. and if you can't handle it take some time off. don't seek comfort in someone. it will only make it worse if your expectations are not met. focus on yourself.

Thanks you guys, it really helps to see that I'm not the only one who feels this way. I wish I knew what is making me feel this way, but I'm not exactly sure what it is. I will do my best to do what you guys say, and I will keep you posted on how my mood is in the near future.
THANKS!!

Hi Tasha,
I want to say that I also have been there, actually I do kinda struggle with it from time to time. I am 33 and have known I have this since I was 23. I found out that it wasnt depression but an anxiety disorder instead. The two are very close but have close but different symptoms and different treatmants. I am also a college student (adult student) but I do know that the stress of school makes it all the more powerful. If you look at the two, anxiety vs depression, anxiety comes and goes, and a good friend is in need. Some one needs to just be there for you...you may want to talk you may not, but its helpful to have one person know you are feeling not right.
Medication will help but not not cure, so we have to as individuals cope and try to understand why and where its comming from. You are not alone...... this is a common mental disorder, and thats a harsh label...... so Im here if you ever have questions about anxiety.

I am seeing a thearapist, and it helps out a bit. What kind of medication works best.... I usually dont like to take meds., but I think that I might want to look into it. Thank you so much for letting me know that I am not the only one, I feel that know I am not alone makes me feel a bit better.
