Question stuck in a rut -career/life

    Hi,

I'm 23 and very ambitious with high hopes and dreams... i left college and have been working in sales jobs ever since and living on my own.then i decided to go to ibiza for the season to "be young" and have no responsibility so quit my job and decided when i get back i will not work full time at a job i am not passionate about as it's soul destroying and i want a job that i'm passionate about. It's been a year since i've made that decision, and i've mulled over and over every kind of job i want, etc etc, and now i'm slowly slowly getting into a rut of being lazy and doing nothing most days. I have talents in a few things but don't want to chose any particular avenue incase it's the wrong choice and i end up regretting it.So as i'm too worried to invest any time and money into anything incase it's wrong.... i'm falling behind i feel and i'm not sure what to do!!
I know this may sound like an odd problem... but i'm really struggling. I have soo many hopes and dreams... and i'm just sitting on my bum incase i make the wrong move : (
If anyone can give any advice, or if they have been in the same position before and moved through it, it would much appreciated..
    Thanks
    x

    What's your fear?

Every Millionairre has "failed" 3 times, in business first... before succeeding.

Sometimes we do things we don't like to get further in life.

You've given up before you've even started.

Doesn't matter what the job is, it's only soul destroying if you don't have goals and dreams. Whilst there, work out what you "think" you'd like to be and start studying, the ask for volunteer work in that field, non-paid part time, experience, work experience to gain a reference, the fact that you were willing to do that, had passed with your course, worked a job you disliked all to get where you want to go WILL impress an employer.. I am one.

Don't have a fear of failing. As, I said, many have but have realised it's not failure rather, a stepping stone to the next step to get where they want.

Sounds like you "were" ambitious, had dreams but NO GOALS.

Set them, write them on a poster sticker, put them on your mirror to see daily and don't stop until you reach it.

No, money, no work, no hobbies, non-affordability to do anything, will depress you more than a job you don't like.

Remember, it's those jobs that make us what we are and give us the strength to search for who we want to be.

    Great post CW!

Figuring out your perfect dream job while sitting on your bum all day is going to take ages, AGES longer than if you were to do it while working... be it a good job or a bad one, you have to be DOING something to move further in life. And even if you work jobs that aren't right for you, you'll gain very valuable experience on the way... experience that you will probably NEED for your dream job, experience that you wouldn't get by sitting around at home being lazy.

As the famed Wayne Gretzky said, "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take." Don't worry about making the wrong move.. just make a move!

You say you have talents in certain areas and hopes and dreams. Focus on one of those talents/hopes/dreams and figure out a game plan of how to make it happen. Then do it.

If you end up disliking whatever it was you picked, then you start on something else.

Go back to school. Take a few courses. Get a regular old job for now to pay for your education. Also, when you find that talent, when you find that field you love - do not expect to be at the top right away. At 23 and very little experience you are likely going to have to work up to what it is you want to do. That is natural... I'm 24.. I'm working in the field of work that I like, but I don't have my dream job... YET. A few more years of proving myself and I will have the job that I want. And I will appreciate it all the more for the effort I had to put in to get it.

Don't let life pass you by while you sit on the couch thinking about what to do with yourself. Just start somewhere. What sparks your interest? What are you good at? Start there.
Most of the shadows of this life are caused by our standing in our own sunshine.
