    Unhappy I need serious help

I am only 18, but my whole life I've suffered from panic attacks, and extreme anxiety of everything. I also sometimes will randomly feel extremely depressed, and feel like everything is pointless. When i have panic attacks, i feel so scared and my heart palpitates, and no one around me ever understands, and makes it worse. I also have extremely low self esteem, and i never can have a relationship last because i won't move farther in the relationship, all because i hate my body. My doctor says i need a counselor, but everyone says they don't help, and i don't feel comfortable talking to a stranger face to face telling them my problems. Sorry there's probably pointless things in here, but i think i just needed to vent ,lol. Is there anything besides medication that can help me?

Oh.my.god. That was literally like reading something from myself . I know how it feels god it's terrible especially when nobody gets how serious it actually is. The thing that ruins my relationships is low self-esteem also less with my body more with my personality I think everyone's too good for me and just sit around and wait them to realise it. I think the counseller is a good idea for you you won't know until you go, I've never been myself but you might find it useful to talk to someone who knows exactly how to deal with your problem. Go back to the docs and talk it out xx

Its nice to know I'm not the only one feeling that way, that I'm not alone. And my doctor thinks I'm crazy, cause I've gone there so many times, and he says counselor every time, but I'm just scared to go to one. And I'm also not sure if my insurance covers it.

I know same here! Well I don't know about insurance because I live over in Ireland and we have an NHS system, but what about school or college? Are there not any counsellers there?

I have one counselor at my school, but she doesn't seem very approachable about things like that. I would take medication, but I don't trust any of it, i won't even take medicine for headaches. I just have seen some of my friends go on medicine for things like that, and it changed their personalities completely.

Well is your doctor all clued up with your insurance details as maybe he/she already knows it's covered and that's why their recommending it and if not I'd ask just to make sure. As far as meds go they should never be considered as a long term fix but they can help and they may not give you any they might just suggest counselling because maybe you just need to work through all the issues you have I'd give it a go, can't be any worse than the way things are right?

My doctor is a family friend, and I've known him my whole life, and my insurance probably does cover it since he recommended it, but I'm just scared to go. But its more my self esteem problems that seem would be harder to fix, I'm not sure if a counselor can help that.

I'd say most people in counselling suffer from low self-esteem! It's extremely common especially when linked to things like anxiety/depression etc etc. Counsellers are well clued in to people with low self-esteem you just have to tell him/her that you feel that way and they can help you through the issues as to why you are and how to improve it. I used to go to a speech therapist (I used to have a stammer) and that was one of the main things they touched upon and there were lots of different ways to help overcome it. I know a speech therapist is a bit different but I did have alot of self-esteem issues back then (sadly I haven't kept my old mind frame when I started feeling better) but talking to someone did really help.

I think i counselor could help my self esteem issues to an extent, but they can't make me feel better about stretch marks. Its just so frustrating feeling like everyone is judging you, and that no one actually likes you. I hate anxiety, why did it have to be passed to me from my mom? Ugh. lol

Bio-oil is meant to be really good for stretch marks/scars and it really isn't a thing to be ashamed of! Lots of women have them and some really badly and even then they aren't a thing that people find gross or anything. I know we all have our insecurities but everytime I feel like I hate something about my body I imagine people who may have a lot less than me it normally makes me appreciate myself a little more.
