    Default PMDD and Sam-e

I have PMDD and it's starting to put my relationship on hold. That one week before my period, I find myself doubting everything he says, have no motivation to do anything except cry and lay in bed, I get the worst bouts of depression, etc.

I'd really not like to get on anti-depressants or anti-anxiety medications. I was hoping someone had experience taking Sam-e to treat their PMDD in lieu of the others. I don't even take pain killers for migraines, so I want to try the natural approach first.

On top of Sam-e, has anyone tried a "calm-plex," consisting of L-Theanine, GABA and 5-HTP?

    Hi there,

a very good brochure about the topic with a list of vitamins and minerals one can take is at the end of the following brochure. It is under PMDD on wikipedia. It is a pdf file at the end of the page called: A positive approach Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) and Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD).

    Good luck!

I have heard good things about Sam-E. My brother is an alcoholic and when he stopped drinking, he started experiencing alot of anxiety. He strongly believed the Sam-E helped.

Dr. Oz had an excellent show on about how to battle PMS symptoms. He said for mood swings, be sure you are taking a B6 supplement as that will help to fight the mood swings.

How are the PMDD symptoms treating you these days? I have heard of the B6 to aid in treatment of PMS symptoms, so, if you have not yet, give that a try. There are some excellent natural treatments that can be used. However, I have had better luck with hormonal treatment, versus anti-depressants for treatment of severe symptoms. I am not sure why doctors put patients on anti-depressants, instead of fixing the source of the depression, like the hormonal imbalance. I hope things have turned around for you now and the outlook is better.

i dont think extreme PMDD can be helped with B6. i think i will try sam-e, as the yasmin hasnt worked.
they use antidepressants as the hormones effect seritonin. i suffer from depression and anxiety as well as PMDD so mine is two fold. when im on antidepressants tho for depression it only helps the PMDD. so i dont have the extremes during the majority of my cycle but i am still depressed. weird hey. maybe i need another type of anti depressant. im hesitant to go back on medication as it kills my sex drive and i cannot orgasm at all, not even on my own. its like a complete mental block where i plateau forever or until i get tired and frustrated (or my partners jaw collapses lol
If I knew where I was going I would already be there

Unfortunately, low libido and inability to reach an orgasm are very common side effects of anti-depressants. Talk to your doctor, because I know there are remedies for that side effect.
