Mine started at 12-13 and went until about 15/16 at a rate of one a month (sometime two) and it would put me out of school sometimes. I can still remember the first one I had in my little private school. We were walking back from the lunch room (It was an old bank building and the main building where the tellers were was the lunch room. Haha. We had portable buildings for classrooms)
While walking back I started seeing a sun spot like when you look at a bright light and look away and all you see is that bright spot. It started morphing into black and white (what I describe as geometric "African tribal patterns") blinking patterns. I found I had to look just right of where I was going so as not to stumble. We got in the classroom and started reading in turns from out science book. When It was my turn I tried but couldn't. I just said ".... I can't see..." My teacher was a little disturbed and after a couple questions she sent someone with me to the nurse (The front desk receptionist who used our tiny 10'x14' library as a make shift nurses office).
After laying in the dark on a mat for about 10 minutes I ran to the bathroom and threw up what seemed like my entire stomach and it's contents (plus a lung, lol) and my mom's best friend (my "second mother") had to come pick me up. I remember thinking "Oh God! Am I dying!?" It sure felt like it...
