Hi, you might have seen me around before. I have been having troubles with extreme mood swings and I think it is my hormones, but they just recently started happening. A lot of things have been going on too. I could be prone to Bipolar Mania disorder when I am older, but I don't think I will get it. When I have the mood swings I go from completely relaxed, happy or hyper to a deep depressed state where all I can do is listen to depressing music. I am NOT going to a doctor about this. What should I do? *BESIDES GO TO A DOCTOR?!?!?!?*
Live, Laugh, Love, Pray, and do something with your life. You live life once, there is no respawn button. Forget second chances. Embrace failure, and embrace death. One day we get everything we want, even if we can't share them with our friends on earth, you can share it with them in Heaven, with God.

If you are one that equates doctor with medical doctor then do not go to those MD doctors as they will write a very quick prescription for Xanax or Prozac. If you still want professional doctoral advice without the drug method go see a psychologist. They are not allowed to write prescriptions and are not so prone to even advising drug methods, they are more 'talk therapy' and can simply have a few sessions to see if there are cognitive behavioral methods you can put into your life to help the mood swings. Other than that trying to sooth yourself without professional advice is very difficult to do, if it were easy everyone would simply "snap out of it". But it is not easy like that. If it is simply stress related then you can try to maneuver around the stress to cope with it better.

Given you dropped by today to say hi

I thought I'd have a thought pattern on the above. See if we can advise other than go to the Doctor

When I have the mood swings I go from completely relaxed, happy or hyper to a deep depressed state where all I can do is listen to depressing music.
So firstly how have things been over the last few months? Same or different?

It is possible that when things are going good for you, or you see something that you think is going to work for you, you get all happy, but then you maybe think na it won't happen, or talk yourself around on it and therefore go into depression.

The last thing you want to do when feeling depressed is do things that are depressing or listen to depressing music you have to turn your logical brain back on and say yep, this will happen or yep, it's okay or yep, I can do...

Every negative turn into a positive.

So hit us with all the negatives happening then all the positives and lets see if we can show you what I mean.

Recent research findings show that for depression meditation is just as or more effective, than medication.

There have also been reports published that have found that when depressed people get off their fannies and quit being so self focused, they get much better. This means exercise and doing things for others. Get out and walk. Volunteer, there are dozens of places that could use your help, how about a local homeless program or yard work for low income elderly people or walking dogs for the animal shelter?

I just read some research on the benefits of practicing compassion. The department of Social Neuroscience at The Max Planck Institute in Leipzig is working on this. You can probably find some info on line about this.

Then there is self compassion, which does differ from self esteem. You can go to self-compassion dot org to learn more about this.
