Default Has anyone on Zoloft/Quetiapine experienced adverse side effects on menstrual cycle?

In early 2010, I was diagnosed with depression. From then till earlier this year, I was on Zoloft and an antipsychotic called Quetiapine. When I started getting better, my psychiatrist took me off Quetiapine and kept me only on Zoloft.

Before taking medication for depression, I never had irregular periods, but twice, when my Zoloft dosage was increased to 200mg, I'd suddenly get very early and very heavy periods. Even though both times, the sudden periods coincided with increased Zoloft dosage, my psychiatrist said there wasn't cause for worry.

So, during a particularly long and painfully heavy period, I went to a gynae instead and they said my blood tests came back normal. They said the bleeding was probably brought on by intense stress/depression. They just gave me injections and medication to stop the period.

It's now been a month since I was weaned off Zoloft. I'm doing great, but I still get irregular periods. Should I be worrying? Should I let my body resolve this on its own? I'm worried because I'm getting married in a month and I plan to start trying for a baby after a year. I wonder if the antidepressants or the antipsychotic have had adverse side effects on my body and fertility. If anyone's had similar experiences, I'd be grateful for your thoughts.

I don't think that it would have any effect on your fertility. I have heard of certain medications interrupting your normal menstral cycle, but it shouldn't be a long-term thing, only when either you first start or increase doses. Your body may just still be adjusting to not having the medication. I would give it a little time and if things don't straighten out, I would speak with the gyno again, because it may be unrelated to the Zoloft. When I was on Zoloft I didn't experience any differences in menstration.

But- everyone reacts differently so that doesn't meant it can't happen to someone else.
