colleen DO NOT take paxil.... it changes people so much we had the hardest time getting my bf off of it. He was sleeping his life away. When he got to the lowest dosage he could take before getting weened he was a brand new person. He is now on effexor it is an snri. It inhibits the reuptake of seritonin and Norepherphine.

good luck

Joy,
I actually just read about the paxil. In fact my Shrink's office has a warning about it now and he's slowing removing all his patients from taking it.

Update on The pristiq.
My eating has slowed way down. My sugar, carb binges have all but gone away. My thoughts are not about food food food all day long and I find that when stress hits I'm not reaching for food. I'm in a much better mood and it's not foggy like it was on prozac.
Prozac did work with the depression but the weird side effects were too much.
I had a bad cough from it. Doc said like one in a thousand will get a cough on it. I also am sleeping better at night. The prozac gave me insomnia. The pristiq has given me more energy and I'm not sleeping my weekends away. So far so good.

Hugs all around.

Mickey,
The pristiq is the new generation of Effexor. I know what you are talking about with effexor. The food thing is so much better, for me. I'm not binging everyday. Example:
Without meds and on prozac I was eating icecream daily, chocolate (sometimes a whole bag of something)when I say icecream daily I mean half a half gal a day. It was bad. I felt tired all the time and just totally disgusted with myself. The pristiq has helped me not binge eat. I suspect the pristiq will not be covered by my insurance and I'll be referred to effexor, which is now generic. Which is fine . I just hope it works as well

Let me change the "binge eating" to obsessive eating disorder. Sorry, I've always confused the two.
