    ...by John Bradshaw.

I had to tell you all about this amazing book because I believe it could help so many of us in one way or another.

Too many of us have 'childhood issues' of some kind which affect our adult lives in ways we cannot always understand. Most anti-social/dysfunctional behaviour is caused by something that has happened to us during childhood and all too often we grow up unaware that we haven't really grown in the true sense, rather we become 'stuck' at the age we were when whatever it was took place. It could be a single incident or a whole childhood of abuse (not always 'obvious' abuse) but when we realise that there is a reason why we are the way we are as adults we can start to heal our inner child. Whether you think you have any 'issues' yourself, or would like to develop more of an understanding of someone in your life, please read this book.

We hear about so many "bad" people in the world, like murderers, robbers, sex offenders etc but do you ever think about how they became to be that way? What was it that turned these adorable innocent little children into "bad" people? I think without exception you could go right back to their childhood and find the cause. That doesn't always make these people 'likeable' or their crimes 'acceptable' but it's good to understand the reasons behind the behaviour.

If these offenders were aware that they are the product of bad programming in childhood, maybe they would be more open to accepting help to change their behaviour.

I feel really passionate about the subject of psychology and child abuse, and read as much as I can on the subject. This book makes so much sense and EVERYONE should read it!

As an avid, passionate person of pyschology myself, I can relate to all of what you said Mazz and that book sounds like one to read.

It's horrid really... But I used to read all of Ann Rules books. They are factual books about murderers, but ones that are sick, not just murder on a wimb but are sick.. One made me feel sick, he was the gardener and lured a little girl from the place he worked, she was 10... Basically he ate her like a roast dinner and 5 years later clued the parents got caught.

It's hard to comprehend for sure. But each book I read. Same.. All stemmed back to childhood.

You are correct, some people who experience things in their childhood grow with understanding and help others. Others, grow with depression and become Monsters.

All in your makeup of strength i think. And, if there are people out there that walk next to you, not in-front or behind... And, help you through it.

Haha another similarity. Are you sure we weren't separated at birth?

Glad you can relate to what I said CW and I hope some of the people who have read this post but not commented will try and read some of the book. I used to read every crime book going because I've always wanted to know what makes people tick. I have books about people like the Krays, Hindley/Brady, The Wests, Harold Shipman, Dennis Nilsen, books written by criminologists about various prisoners during their incarceration and their journeys afterwards, etc etc....

Funnily enough my mum used to worry about me reading this kind of stuff, as if it might make me become an offender of some sort!!! She was completely oblivious to the fact that it was much more likely to be what had already happened in my childhood and family relationships which would cause me to offend or go off the rails than reading about others who do! I find it odd that people would rather pretend bad stuff doesn't happen and hope it will just go away

Maz and CW, I can see eye-to-eye with both of you on this subject. I have always been intrigued by people's mentality and what makes them tick. I've always had an interest in all kinds of psychotic behaviors and their origins, etc.

    Y'all are some cool chicks.
    Cheers.

Perhaps Maz we're both "addictive to murder books"

I have read Hindley/Brady, The Wests as well... In fact, i probably have 100 books, though lost Ann Rules books (sad)... Can post some to you haha.

Fear... People fear the un-known, un-explainable and therefore, remain in their bubble of comfort.

People like you, me and obviously Fire(m) are intrieged and want to get into the minds of the why?

A lot of things facinate me..

Even simple things like the colours of birds, blues/yellows/reds beautiful - verses grey dull ones, and male Lions, superior verses female lions plain, where as female cats/dogs tend to look very simular only softer, but sometimes hard to tell their sex.

    It's a facinating world.

Point being pertaining to your thread, if you "understand" or at least "try to understand" you are in a position of equality of at least a percentage of knowledge and if you have to reach someone, who may be a bit "different" then you are capable of doing so... Without that understanding they walk alone.

And, it can be a lonely world.
