My friend is due to have a C-section in a month. She has a 2 1/2 yr old boy and she will need a lot of help the first week since her husband can't take a vacation until two weeks later.

Basically, they've asked me to come by and take the kid for most of the day and pop in and out to help her with general things like cooking and stuff.

They want to pay me what is fair since I'll have to take off work for a week. But I've never done anything like this before. I babysit for them a lot but I've never charged them so I have no idea what would be fair.

Maybe check your local job listings or Craigslist to see what the going rates are, or charge what you would have earned at work? I think around here babysitters make pretty good money - as much as $20 an hour depending on the neighborhood.

The lady who has a daycare out of her house near me charges $20 for each child an hour but she does give discounts on more than one child and also she works with the families that don't have that much money or the state pays her for them.

i suggest u talk it out with her express your feelings since you are friends that you dont want to charge to much and also about how u dont want to lose money and how much you would have made at work but make sure she understands you don't want to 'take advantage of her in this time of need or make the relationship strained just be yourself be honest
    it is hard
it was hard for me when my family memebers would ask and ask how much do you charge like being a family member they atomaticly get a discount lol .

    good luck
