    Unhappy Youngest to surgery

My 5yo has to get surgery. Got back from the Dr a bit ago. I noticed a bump on his head about 6 weeks ago and thought maybe he hit his head on something, so didn't pay too much attention to it, just checked on it now and then. A couple of weeks ago, I noticed it started turning blue, like a bruised color.

He had is 5yo check up on Friday and I mentioned it to the pedi. They referred us to a pediatric surgeon and we discovered it was a tumor. Benign, THANK GOODNESS! But he still has to have surgery to remove it.

Oh, dear! Thank goodness it is benign, and you are observant enough to get it checked sooner.

    Hope everything work well, Lana.

How frightening, are you okay sweet? Regardless, finding that out must have scared you half to death...

Keep your chin up, he is only young and won't really remember the surgery as we would at our age... Tell him he gets lots of ice-cream for being so brave etc, so he thinks there is a reward.

I remember at 11, the Nurse bought me a chocolate bar ,I don't remember the surgery but I remember her, the gift and how I felt real brave

I didn't have surgery as a kid but when I was about your son's age, I fell really ill and had to be hospitalized. All I remember from that experience was a really nice nurse giving me little presents that my parents had sent me!

I agree with CW, rewards are a good thing.

Hahaha yea, gifts are always good. And especially at that age.During my surgery, the only thing that made me feel better(didn't think that was possible) was family up there to see me.All the gifts were nice, but for a little guy his age, that's all hes gunna be thinking about "Where are my balloons?!"

Awww... Thanks guys. Definitely nerve wracking. He's a typical rambunctious boy, so I'm sure he'll bounce back quickly and it could have definitely been worse.

It just sometimes seems like things never let up, it's constantly been something since last Aug/Sept. I often wonder how much I can take before I crack. lol I guess it's a good thing I thrive off stress.

Kids will put you through it! How fortunate you got both the tumor and benign news. Mine have gotten through a heart mummer (innocent), being functionally deaf (now perfect hearing), taking a dive off a curb into the middle of a usually Very busy roadway (there wasn't a car on it at the moment, little chin cut bled like she must decapitaed herself) a broken bone or two, arm through a window (quite a lot of blood and stitches) wisdom teeth removal (now number 2 needs it). Sometimes you wonder how you get through it.
Have a treat with them and a good snuggle. Bet you need it !
