I never had any trouble dealing with cloth diapers. Way less diaper rash!
I am a nanny and looked after a boy that used cloth nappies. At first I thought 'great. now I have to scrape poo' and all things of the like. However, after seeing the new nappies in funky colours and fabrics and fastened with buttons and they were easy to clean. The family had a connection that hooks onto the loo. It's like a hose you sqirt to poo off and pop in into the nappy soloution wash, dry! And the best parts for them were saving money, and helping the environment. Plus the little guy used to get really excited but the red furry ones :-)

We can only learn to love by loving. - Iris Mudoch, British writer
I use cloth diapers! I use prefolds, bumgenious velcro and some I have sewn myself! Its not as scary as you may think! Just throw them in the wash when your bucket gets full. Very good if your on a budget.

My mom used cloth diapers on me, as well as my two brothers. I used cloth diapers with my two boys as well. I didn't feel it to be a hassle if I'm at home, but when we went out I used disposable diapers.
With cloth diapers, you'll have more to wash (that's alright because you've got washing machine now, I used to handwash them since I lived in a remote 3rd world place). Baby's skin could breathe better, hence less or no diaper rash.
