First of all I'd like to say that I am new member. I just joined and i'm looking forward to being a part of this board.

I have a beautiful 10 month old son. He is the light of my life. Recently has come down with a Stomach Virus a very bad one. It's been going on all week. Sometimes he vomits. But he's got a bad case of Diarrhea. It just won't stop. He's on soy milk, but drinks very little and eats very little. He's already lost half a pound and he may be loosing more. I am trying everything to keep him hydrated.

He's been to the doctor's twice and we are now giving him florastor in his food. So we'll see how that goes. I am so worried. I think he may end up in the ER to get fluids through IV. This is the first time he's come down with this stomach bug. He's had it before but not this bad.

Can anyone please help me with some advice. How long did it last with your children.

It sounds like you are doing everything you can. Taking him to the DR and trying to keep him comfortable is about all you can do right now. Kids are so strong.....just keep a close eye on him and if he needs to go to the ER just be the momma you sound like you are to him. Reassure him and love him.
It sucks when your baby gets sick, you feel so helpless. Just don't let him see you feeling bad...that only gives them more reason to fuss. Be positive around him and tell him he will get better soon.
Keep us posted on how he is doing

    Default This too shall pass..

A stomach bug sucks, especially when the little ones have it and are suffering.

Just keep him hydrated and try to be happy around him. Babies are so strong! My daughters both had the flu the same times, (3, and 14 mos at the time) it was hard. But they came out of it ok. A little weaker and skinnier but that was only more reason to pig out when they did eat.

Trust me, he'll get through it.

Both of my kids have been through that bad "stomach bug" more than once, and it's something else!

    (1) They both went to the doctor and the best thing to do for them was:

    (2) Give them clear fluids.

    (3) If they are infants or toddlers, give them PediaSure (or is it PediaCare?) It's the drink that's given to children to help them with re-hydration.

    (4) Give them Emitrol, if the doctor ok's it. It helps with the nasea and upset stomach.

    (5) The doctor may prescribe suppositories, to help with the diarrhea.
