I read this thread wondering if all of these children were pierced with the "traditional" gun system? If this is the case I have a lot of information that may change the minds of some of the mothers doing this. I am a body piercer, I have done this for 9 years now. I have a daughter who is 3 and loves to see pictures of what her mommy does for people. My daughter wants earrings so bad she can taste them I am sure, but doing what I do and knowing what I know I would NEVER pierce my child's ears until she was old enough to sit through the process of having it done with a hollow straight needle.
Piercing guns are WRONG!!!!! Having "cute" earrings in your daughters ears are the least of your concern in this situation. You spent many many weeks carrying that baby and taking care of it and trying to help it to come out healthy, now what would make you go and put a child at risk for so many life threatening diseases? Piercing guns CARRY THOUSANDS OF GERMS. Peroxide or what ever else they clean the guns with will NOT kill all the bacteria that they collect. A piercing gun can never be sterilized!!! They are made of steel and plastic and can not be cleaned. Plastic can hold bacteria for lifetimes!!! A child's immune system is much weaker then an adults. If someone with AIDS or and disease was pierced with that gun you are subjecting your baby to the chance of contracting that disease. There is the chance of blood to blood contact. There is the chance that who ever was pierced with that gun before could be a carrier for any host of diseases. They use those guns hundreds of times!
A piercing gun is used to shove a very blunt piece of steel or other wise through a piece of skin and tissue. A blunt object it not ment to do such a thing. It's like trying to cut wood with a butter knife!!! You may do it but chances are it was very painful to do. I understand that a needle seems "scary" or more painful, but really it is not. I understand that the earrings are cute, I understand if they get done early they wont play with them. Risking willingly subjecting my child to the chance of a serious disease for something cute.
If anyone understands the desire to have earrings it is me. I have pierced little girls as young as six!!!! But I do so in a clean enviroment! with sterile supplies!! The risk of infection and the risk or disease tranmission is lowered exponentially! Please if you do read this pass this on to other mothers. It is not fair to the mom who thinks that getting her babies ear pierced is harmless, and ends up with a baby who gets sick because that baby was pierced with a gun!!!!!!
