Default 1st time mom, 6 month old sick...

Hi, I am new to the site and I am a new mom. My 6 mth old daughter has had a cold for 8 days. Saw the Dr last monday. Now it seems to be getting worse. she isn't sleeping, eating less too. The past 2 weeks she has been having 5-7 bowel movements a day but tonight it turned to a really dark, almost black, sticky like stool. Can a virus or teething cause this type of bowel movement?

A cold can last seven to ten days. If she has no fever and is hydrated, she is probably fine. I know that babies can have up to seven bowel movements a day. I would think if she's swallowing a lot of mucus, etc., her stools would be lighter in color. I'm not sure about teething - all babies are different. Some get ear infections, some get runny noses, some drool alot and some get fevers. (my doctor says a fever or ear infection isn't possible, but all the older women in my family insist can happen)

Maybe its time to call the doctors office and let them know what's going on.

Black stool is indicative of problems with digestion ... all the "symptoms" websites say that "tarry" stool is actually bloody stool. I was never sure myself what "tarry" stool looked like, much less felt like, so you should ask a doctor.
Those symptom websites were for adults, though. For a child, it could be nothing, but you should tell your doctor regardless.
Good luck
