Thumbs down Parents with daughters. Miss Bimbo.

Have your daughters heard of missbimbo.com? Do they use it and what do you think of the website?
It's just been on the news here and parents are not happy about the website at all.
It allows you to create a "bimbo" and you can pay £1.50 or something via sms to buy breast implants and diet pills. Children as young as 9 use the website.
I've just looked it up and am on the website now but it's taking forever to load so I don't know what else is on the site but I think it is very irresponsible.
We should be teaching young girls that breast implants and diet pills are not something that every girl should have. They are not needed.
Women come in all different shapes and sizes and we should be happy with the way we look.. hardly anyone looks like the models we see in magazines, including the models themselves whatwith airbrushing etc.
Children should be allowed to be children for as long as possible.

Haha, it looks quite funny. I'd play it if I didn't need to register. The fact that Bimbo is a derogatory word is enough...

It looks like a joke to me, and even if not it's up to the parent to teach their child what's right and wrong, not the rest of the world. I mean, when I was a boy I was playing video games where I could knock over an old age pensioner and stamp on them till they died, or blow peoples legs off with a shotgun. In one game you can even dowse someone with gasoline and flick matches at them, then urinate on them while they run around on fire. Have I done any of those things? No.

Get over it, you can't censor the whole world.
And if you could it would be a travesty. Where would you stop? What about a philosopher who has some radical ideas?

this is just another example of the way contemporary culture is devaluing people - especially girls.

we live in a place where girls are used for sexual fun - then it's filmed & sold. people will pay big money to see children raped - and the aclu will spend millions to defend their constitutional right to do so.

we've always juggled the dehumanization of women - but recently we've extended the disdain to include girls. children.

anon hit the nail on the head. it's a parent's responsibility to teach a child to discern right & wrong.

and to fight to change a culture that is self destructing. the joke is not that a site like this exists - it's that there are people who have been so conditioned by society to think it's OK, that they just lie down.

anyone ever studied the rise of the nazi's? they fed hate-games to children, influenced what was preached in churches & taught in schools, bombarded society with media that supported the idea that jewish people really weren't people at all.

they fed people so much bullsh*t - and they all sat down, opened their mouths, and ate it until the whole nation bought the ridiculous assertion that jews were worth nothing.

is it really all that different from what our culture is now telling us about girls?

unbelievable how we just absolutely refuse to learn from our mistakes.

Anti-Semitism has its roots in ... when Judaism began. No group of people as a whole has ever "liked" the Jews. Hitler just fed off it. Hell, he didn't even believe it until someone convinced him it would make a good platform to be elected on in a dirt-poor, reparations-payin' Germany. Then he went 100% off his rocker and didn't know WHAT he believed, so people fried.
Ahem. Misrepresentation of Hitler [who was, of course, a bad, bad man, but also mentally ill and deeply disturbed] is one of my pet peeves.
Of course, is the dehumanization of women any different? One human saw another human who didn't hunt mammoth quite as well as he could; that was woman. Did it really all start from that?
I just checked out the 'site and I think it's interesting that they include "botched" boob jobs. I also think it looks really cute and fun. Though I don't like the diet pills idea.

your point is well taken.

but mine was much less about the reasons for hitler's persecution of the jews and more about the way he misled an entire nation to behave a certain way.

and it is not at all unlike the way we are being conditioned to behave towards girls.

What we do to girls and women in this day and age is an atrocity. We constantly feed them in hundreds of ways daily the notion that they are only good for sex, that they should look sexy, act sexy, dress sexy, to be taken at any value. Its insane.

The other day, in the afternoon, was a commercial for the newest episode of "Gossip Girl" - which, if you don't know, is a show based a series of books aimed at pre-teen girls which chronicles the lives and loves and sex lives of rich kids at Manhattan private schools. The commercial, at 3:00 in the afternoon, was showing quick snippets of what looked like adults having various romps in bed, moaning, writhing, sheets twisted, with the letters O-M-F-G in between cuts. (of course, to mean, Oh My F*ck*ing God). I thought it was a movie ad! Then the screen flashes a giant "OMFG" with a voice-over - "Gossip Girl, all new episode." Seriously, I thought I'd have a stroke.

I'm pretty darn liberal, but at 3 in the afternoon, played during a CARTOON commerical break, for my young daughter or any other young child to see, really ****ed me off.

Read "Prude: How the Sex Obsessed Culture Damages Girls (and America Too!)" by Carol Platt Leibau. Its got some good points.

There are things that bother me, though. There's all this supposed research saying that girls are having sex younger and younger in this decade. But, if you just look at pop culture - movies from the early eighties, like "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" or Jodi Foster in "Foxes" - even "Little Darlings" with Kristi MacNichol and Tatum O'Neal. The female characters talk about losing their virginity at 13, 14 and 15... which means that it was going on two and three decades ago the same way it goes on now.

Keeping our heads in the sand because we don't want our girls doing what lots of us did at the same age isn't going to stop them from doing it. Does it shock me that eighth graders are having orgies and rainbow parties and train parties? Yeah, that freaks me out. Also the fact that they don't consider oral or anal sex, sex. But what specifically bothers me about it is their lack of knowledge about their own bodies and the consequences that can arise. Their bodies are much more mature than ours were at that age, but their brains sure aren't. So kids wanting to have sex in early teens doesn't shock me. I don't think that's anything new.

I think the Nazi comparisons are way off the mark.

i imagine so, if you take it literally.

as an analogy, though, how is it different from what you've just explained??

the point is - whether you use the nazis or any other sweeping cultural movement - the point is that we (people, in general) have demonstrated through history that we can be conditioned to behave a certain way & to treat people - and specific groups of people - a certain way.

the nazi's used the media, the church, toys & games for children - all to sweepingly creat a belief system in which people behaved a certain way toward a select group pg people.

i can't understand how difficult it is to find the relationship between that kind of conditioning to the kind of conditioning our culture is now experiencing regarding sex - and, specifically, sex with young girls.

we're all growing more & more comfortable with the idea. young boys - and old men - all have unlimited access to internet pornography, the overwhelmingly new popular theme of which is teen porn, barely legal girls - and now, thanks to the ACLU, simulated sex with pre-teen girls.

simultaneously, girls recieve the conditioning that you've described - and that this game provides. we teach girls that they are only as valuable as they are sexy. and we teach boys that girls are only as valuable as they are sexy. at the same time, we legitimize the attraction that men have for younger & younger girls - until we're no longer shocked.

and we build an entire culture that devalues girls, except for their ability to be used for sex.

i'm not suggesting that girls are being gassed the way jews had been, obviously.

but are you aware that there is - in the USA - a multi-million dollar market for children, pre-teen girls, who are shipped in from poor countries & sold as sex slaves to wealthy americans?

and that they perform surgery on those CHILDREN's vagina's to repair their torn hymens, so each customer gets a fresh 11 year old virgin?

nothing even close to the attrocities of nazi germany - really?

i would suggest that any culture that would pay money - much less big money - for that kind of documented sexual abuse of children, is a culture that has been conditioned using techniques not unlike those of hitler's regime.

The era of the sexualisation of the man has also recently begun... Pepsi adverts, James Bond's rippling muscles emerging from the water. Not to mention the way that our society defines masculinity - muscly, aggressive, alpha male types. That very same social conditioning drives a fair few men to jail trying to make themselves "manly" and win respect by fighting etc.

Personally, I just think that we, as individuals and as parents, need to live as we see fit. I can't help but think of the other thread in motherhood about having your babies ears pierced, so this isn't all coming from the media - it's coming from the parents too. Women were having sex at a young age as far as time goes back, just because it's happening now doesn't mean that it hasn't always been. I'm not saying it's right, but you can't blame everything on TV.

Isn't the new Rambo film effectively the masculine equivilent of porn? As for saying that todays society is influenced similarly to the nazis.... All of our cultures are built out of influence. In fact the very moral codes we hold ourselves to are simply the remnents of christianity - whether the person is religious or not. (obviously the negatives of christianity being things like monogomy, and homophobia).

Girls need to stand up and represent themselves, we can't really say it's all men's fault when all a lot of women can think about is talking about what to wear with their friends, who they want to shag them, stumbling around in high heels, wishing they could have boob jobs... You can't always blame what people are exposed to - people should be strong enough to be what they want to be - and if some of those people wind up being slags then so be it - just like some men will be masculine extremes etc.
