    Default Almond Butter

If you're someone who uses peanut butter in your diet, consider switching to Almond Butter. The key is, your almond butter should have one ingredient: almonds. Some will have unrefined cane sugar, etc....do not buy those. I buy mine at Kroger and they have both kinds, with added sugar and without.

2 tbsp of Almond Butter is about half the calories as 2 tbsp of peanut butter, plus you get all the health benefits of the almonds.

I should switch, I love, love, love peanut butter but I can't have it that often because it's so high in calories. When I run out, I'll get almond butter next time.

SP, You'll love it. I was a HUGE peanut butter fan. Finally realized I was "measuring" out WAYYYY more than 2 Tablespoons (which is around 200-250 cal). So if I ate peanut butter with an apple for breakfast I was ending up with a 500 cal breakfast and totally not realizing it! The pure almond butter with no sugar is expensive, but totally worth it IMO.

Just had some almond butter as part of my supper, very delicious. I think it tastes way better than peanut butter, and it sounds like it's better for me too.

Yay Denny!! Whoo hoo!!! It IS better for you. Not only half the calories of PB but lots of nutrients almonds give us. Remember though, moderation. Indulge in a little at a time, not over 2 tablespoons.

Also....if you've never tried it, try to find some michigan wildflower honey. This, some AB and a good multigrain flat round.....you have yourself a nice little healthy dessert.

Okay, I'm not sure what magic almond butter you're eating, but I would like some! ALL of the almond butters I have seen are pretty much exactly the same calorie count as peanut butter. All of them. About 180 - 200 calories for 2 Tablespoons. And these are natural brands, with just almonds. The main difference in health that I know of is that the fat from almonds is healthier than the fat from peanuts.

And I do like almond butter, but I still prefer the taste of peanut butter.

Panda - You are exactly RIGHT!!!!! I feel bad for giving bogus info now. lol. I had been making mine at home using the bags of raw sliced almonds, and I was using the calorie count on the bag as my reference point. Not quite the same. Yeeks. Sorry folks. Panda is right. I looked up the MaraNatha raw and it's about 190 and the Jif PB is about 210. Not quite the difference I thought.

    Eh...oh well...I concede...I've been wrong before. lol

Ok, I thought I was just going crazy. I was going to ask if there was some magic brand out there that I didn't know about because I couldn't find one that was lower in calories. Got ya. I'll still pick some up because almonds are waaay better than peanuts.

If you are looking for low cal peanut butter though, PB2 is decent. Not exactly the same, but still good, and you can't beat the stats. You have to order it online.
I've never tried Better 'n Peanut Butter, but that's another lower cal version, and you can find it at specialty stores, I've seen it at Whole Foods.
Not sure if there are almond butter equivalents yet.
