it's not hunger at all, it's just a craving for anything to do with chocolate, dessert, bread...am i supposed to just resist and ignore it or what?
Yes. You have to train yourself to resist the things that are bad for you. Chocolate, desserts, white breads are NEVER good for you, especially someone with diabetes. It's great that you can identify this is a craving, not a hunger. One comes from the mind = craving. One comes from the body = hunger.

Peanut butter and crackers is a good alternative, BUT, peanut butter has about 210 calories in two tablespoons. Makes for a pretty high cal "snack" if you have more than just two or three.

The key is learning your body enough to keep yourself from getting to that "I'm STARVING" point. You don't want to starve yourself, or skip meals, because then you'll over indulge when you do eat. Research some no sugar low fat snacks to incorporate in your diet. You can find alot on the Nutrition and Recipe boards here too.

As for the "cravings" which you know are not actual hunger, you must learn to resist. Get yourself a nice little water bottle. I prefer the one with the spout that lifts up and has a straw connected to it. I bought mine at Walmart for $4. Keep it full of icewater with a squeeze of lemon (or you could try a sprig of mint). When you feel a craving, drink drink drink. RESIST the bad stuff, the less you have the less you'll want.

I agree with BD...Drinking lots of water really helps a lot! Also, if you *must* have some chocolate, get dark chocolate. It's a bit more "full flavored" and at least for me, I have to eat it much slower. I like the Lindt ones with the individually wrapped pieces. I also find that fruit will help when you have cravings for sweets too. I love eating pineapple, peaches and cantaloupe in the summer when I'm craving something sweet Does the trick

It is def about learning to fight the cravings. It's kind of like being a kid again. If it were up to kids they'd eat only fried foods and lots of candy, but you have to also be able to train them to eat the things that are good for them. I find the more I eat healthy, the more I *want* to eat healthy.

210 calories! That must be the reason they suggest only one. 105 calories plus those of the crackers. And no heaping that tablespoon like you do for the dog, now.
