Default I need to GAIN weight

I am struggling with my weight due to a new mediciation I need to be on. It works so well that I don't want to switch, but DR is threatening to due to my wt loss. I have only lost 5 lbs, but have a high metabolism, so have always been just at or under what is considered the 'healthy' weight for my height. I have tried protein shakes etc but am hindered by my allergy to chocolate and IBS which rules out a lot of caffine or more than one fatty meal a day (ie McDonalds). The protein shakes are hard for me to get down due to taste and texture. Any other ideas out there?

Adding in some healthy fats can help you to gain weight. Things like nuts, nut butters, seeds, healthy oils (olive, canola, flax, coconut), and avocados are all healthy fats and calorie dense so you get a lot of calories without a lot of volume.

Sprinkle ground flaxseed on yogurt or oatmeal.

Drink your calories. 100% fruit juice, vegetable juice, soymilks, etc.

Just eat more, but not worse - fattening up on McDonalds is NOT a healthy way to gain weight.

Strength training will also put some muscle on you.

Peanut butter sandwiches on whole wheat bread. Loaded with protein, good fats, calories and whole grains. Depending on the bread you choose and how much peanut butter you use, they can be up to 500 calories a sandwich.

As far as I know eating honey in the morning stops or REALLY slows down your metabolism for the rest of the day...

I tried to find out and I got it the wrong way round, Honey speeds up your metabolism by the looks of it. Sorry!!!
    Although I did find this:
High sugar foods might give you a quick fix on energy, but they slow down your metabolism and make you crash later.

I agree with everyone else, drink your calories, have snacks like nuts, peanut butter, etc. You can eat higher calorie (but healthy) breads. Have you tried making smoothies? I have a friend with the same kind of issue as you and she swears by smoothies. She has one every day with a banana, fruits, and part of an avocado to bulk up the fat a bit. They are actually quite yummy. Not sure if you can or can't have diary with your IBS but cheese can be pretty high calorie. You could maybe add a serving of cheese a day. That's a good extra 100 calories. I always get my sammies without but perhaps you could eat yours with?

    Good luck!!

Drinking your calories is a great way. Fruit juice is so high in calories, indulge. Carb it up. Breads and Pastas , those give you energy that if you don't use turns to weight gain so I'd start with a high carb diet... Pasta with bread on the side and washing it down with a fruit juice. I would just do the opposite of what people do to lose weight... instead of eating frequent small meals, eat the typical 3 a day with bigger portions and your heaviest meal for dinner (again opposite of what people trying to loseweight would do).
Scars remind us of where we've been...they don't have to dictate where we're going.

Just like yourself i am on medication that makes it very hard to eat and i have lost 5 kilo's in a month and my metabolism is very fast and i'd be classified as underweight according to my height. The only thing that helps me (because im not allowed protein shakes and anything with vitamin K) weight training. Go to a gym or buy your own weights and build muscle mass.
