i'm 20 and I weigh 87 pounds, I have no idea how to gain weight. No I;m not anorexic I eat alot. But I have a fast metabolism. So I started eating things with milk or ice cream and junk food. But then I don't want to have horrible eating habits. Its difficult. But its hard to find my pants size I want to atleast go up a pant size or 2

How tall are you? If you are comfortable with your weight, don't over do it trying to add weight. More weight will come with age. Learning to eat too much will be a habit that is hard to break as you get older. Are you in good health?

What is your normal diet, what kind of food? Is American, Asian, Indian, Italian, Mexican, etc.? Did your sister nurse her children? It sounds like your on the thin side, but probably not excessively.

Definitely don't eat junk food to gain weight!
Can you give us a typical menu that you have in a day? It's hard to say if we don't know what you're eating now.

Everyone told me that I would gain weight with age too. Its not seeming to work. I eat 4 times a day. Whatever sounds good when Im hungry I guess. It seems like i gain the weight and then go right back down. I eat a lot of pasta and meat. I just love food but it doesnt love me lol

If it is hard for you to gain any weight, you could try drinking one or two protein shakes a day. You can buy it at GNC. There are lots of different flavored protein powders.

I also need to gain weight. I'm 5'9 and 100lbs. The cause of my "underweightness" is that I do too much physical activity but I can't help it. I swim competively so I train around 20 hours a week and on top of that I run on weekends and do 10km at charity races and I also do weight training at home to try to build muscle and yoga to relax. I'm just 14 years old and people tell me I'll gain weight when I get older, which is true because two years ago I was 15lbs lighter and only 2inches shorter.

I would like to reach the 120lbs mark, but as it is i'm already taking a bunch of protein shakes and eating a ton. I know I should maybe stop exercising but I can't, because I would really like to go to international competitions in swimming and I am not very far away from that. I tried talking to my doctor but he dosent understand, he just says to stop training and drink shakes. How could I gain weight?

You're doing the right thing. Basically you need to eat more calories than you burn. Being young with a fast metabolism will make it hard but just be sure to eat a balanced diet. Don't stop training, being healthy and active when you are young is very important.
Have a protein shake before and after your workouts as well as full, balanced meals. Choose health, nutrient dense snacks with a lot of protein between meals.
