Iv'e noticed recently that my bowel movements aren't as frequent and iv'e been feeling really gross and extremely gassy. Im doing a short term cleanse and using metamucil (1 teaspoon) 2 times a day for 3 days or so. This won't cause dependence right?

    THANKS!

fiber supplements (psyllium) have always made my constipation worse once i stopped taking them, and they actually made me gassier while i was taking them. so i guess i could have been dependent on them, but i decided to find ways to deal with it that didn't involve large amounts of fiber. probiotics, for one.

it might be worth getting a stool test. i just had one done and the result was NO lactobaccilus, even though i have been taking probiotic supplements for years. my doc said i have been wasting my money because the bad bacteria were always outnumbering the good. it shocked me because i have "healthy" diet, no soda, little sugar, few carbs. i have to eliminate the bad stuff first (using a natural antibiotic) and then recolonize with a very powerful probiotic. it's working so far, i'm much less gassy, bm's are easier to pass, no fiber necessary.
