I have read many post where people take digestive enzymes from nutrition stores. I also read that many doctors say that your body does not absorb synthetic enzymes so they don't have any value.

Can someone who has some knowledge add some light on this issue?

It is my understanding, and I am not a medical expert at any level, that digestive enzymes that you consume are only "used when the pancreas cannot make or does not release enough digestive enzymes into the gut to digest the food." In cases like "chronic pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis, cancer of the pancreas, after surgery on the pancreas or gut."

If you haven't dealt with any of the above then I would avoid them IMO.

Digestion and enzyme secretion is a synergistic process at every level, from mouth to stomach to small intestine. Often, if someone isn't producing enough stomach acid (and so many of us don't) your body won't release protein-digesting enzymes. In general, I'd work with a nutritional therapist who can treat digestive symptoms holistically with high-quality supplements. Most of the best non-pharmacological supplement companies don't work with nutrition stores like GNC or Vitamin Shoppe. I know that wasn't entirely your question, but just hammering your body with synthetic enzymes won't work for a variety of reasons, the complexity of digestion being one of them.

There is no quick "cure" to any weight loss issue, there is no magic powder, there is no magic pill, if it is being sold online it is very very likely going to be another scam, if someone in a store says the words "yeah do not need to workout or eat healthy just take this" then take that as a red flag that they are simply looking for your money.

Metabolism and digestion is far too complex to just boost with a magic pill, the only real way to be healthy is eat right and exercise.

    Hey 123Kathy,
I use Active Digestive Enzymes and they work really well for me. They help break down food while you eat it so it makes BMs a lot more effective and easier. I have ad IBS for like 3 years now and these were the first supplements to actually help me. I hope this helps you- Natalie G.
