Plain yoghurt is an excellent source of protein, calcium, riboflavin and vitamin B 12. When yogurt is compared to milk, yogurt contains more calcium and protein because of the added cultures in the yogurt.

Yogurt must contain active and living cultures to be yogurt. Cultures are composed of unique living microorganisms which are responsible for many of the health and nutritional benefits of yogurt. Some of the health benefits of yogurt are"

Natural Yoghurt improves natural defense, it contains a good amount of phosphorus and 88% water. People with a risk of osteoporosis should eat at least one serving of yogurt per day.

It has also been claimed that yogurt may protect against some types of cancer but more investigations have to be carried out.

A nice alternative to eating yoghurt plain is to dice up cucumber finely and a clove of garlic and add it into the yoghurt and use as a dip, or a salad dressing.

Carrots are a source of Vitamin A..at a ratio of 41% there is no other nutritional value in carrots, 5 calories per carrot and no fat. The best method of eating carrots would be raw or blanched to keep their nutrition.

    I found this interesting:-

Some Statistics: In the US over 172 million tonnes of carrots are processed into baby peeled carrots.

In the US baby peeled carrots sales exceed US$400 million per annum.

Overall carrot consumption in the US has increased by 33% through the introduction of baby peeled carrots.

In the US annual consumer spending on baby peeled carrots exceeds US$2.00 per head.

In 1999 baby peeled carrot purchases passed whole carrots. 94% of US consumers purchased baby peeled carrots
90% had bought whole carrots. Purchases of baby peeled carrots were even ahead of fresh salad mixes.

Baby peeled carrots have the lion's share of the carrot category accounting for over 80% of all retail carrot sales.

Up until 2000 baby carrots have dominated US produce department's with excellent growth ahead of all other produce items.

I also read they use them now in McDonald burgers in US?

In short, absolutely nothing special. It is good food for you no doubt, however eating carrots everyday will not make your health something super special. The added vitamins and minerals are helpful but they will not themselves change your life or diet around. You can eat McDonalds every night as well as baby carrots and yogurt and the diet would still be terrible kind of thing. Eating something like carrots does not cancel the bad effects of fast food for example, it is good to eat the carrots and yogurt but they themselves are not going to be a major contributor to overall health if the rest of the diet does not complement the healthy food choices.

Katie - both of these things are good for your health and are good nutrition as long as that is not all you're eating. Carrots are not high in calories, but the calories they do have come from sugars. Like I said, yogurt is a good healthy thing to eat, and so are carrots but they will not provide the level of nutrients your body needs if that is all you're eating. (Not saying its all you're eating, just putting it out there. ).

Eating healthy is a great thing, and does pay off in both weight loss and energy.

Well, seems you are eating all good things from each time you post

I just realised "tran" so guessing of Asian decent, in my opinion, as I cook alot of Asian food, there is very little fat components in the sauces, the love of greens, seafood, (apart from the rice) unless small quantities, is fantastic...

One last question, there is a purpose for you writing this thread, carrots, yoghurt, tofu, what is it you are trying to achieve, a balance nutritious diet? Or a weight loss diet?

It will only give you the specific nutrition related to the food. Yogurt will have calcium, some vitamins and minerals and a bit of probiotics. Carrots have vitamin C, vitamin A, and beta carotene. Eating carrots can turn your skin orange but you will need to eat several pounds a day for a week or more...in other words it will make no difference in your skin color if you eat a handful a day. Carrots provide the vitamin A which is good for your eyes but again absolutely no vitamin or mineral present in the food is by itself going to keep you healthy. Having the yogurt and carrots every week is simply a means to keep up your nutrition, it is not going to completely change your current health.
